This morning I left Africa! It is so strange to think that I was ever in Africa, and that I have already left. When I boarded my British Airways plane my African life changed immediately. No more African greetings, just quick hellos, classical music was playing not bongo flavor, and of course all the white people. Luckily I was seated next to one of the 5 Tanzanians on the plane, so I did not have to be embarrassed about my dirty feet or the fact that I smelled bad. Because he sure smelled wo...
London, England, United Kingdom amandalynnJohn and I made it to London at last. Rainy, rainy day it was yesterday, so our outbound flight to London was delayed for 4 hours. Scheduled to take off at 18:45, we did not leave Minnesota ground until 22:00. It was an extremely long flight - 7 hours and 20 minutes to be exact. It could have been longer, but the pilot promised us he would work with Air Traffic Control to "cut a few corners" to get us all to London sooner. Arrived in London at 12:50 - London time. London is currently 7 hours ...
London, United Kingdom bvang17So we got to London around 11:30 on Monday...hustle and bustle everywhere!! (very much like Chicago in terms of that). We asked one of the station workers how to get to Bloomsbury (the neighborhood where our hostel was located) and after he looked at a map he said in a high pitched voice, "BLOOMsbury, you say?!" I felt so bad but I literally burst out laughing because it felt like something out of a comedy the way he said it and plus he kinda looked like a cartoon character. But he told us ho...
London, England, United Kingdom danceraThis London weather blows! woke up early because the guy next to me was snoring so loudly haha After breakfast we went to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard. It was raining so much but people still waited. But by 11 they put up a sign saying no changing of the guard. Dang. So what to do in this weather?! We went to Sansbury to get lunch and got some salads, which were good. Then we went to the British Museum across the street from us. They had an exhibit on American prints whi...
London, England, United Kingdom danceraWaking up was hard. After breakfast we went back to the Palace and saw the changing of the guard. We left about half way through once they got into the palace grounds because it got boring. Oh and it was also really warm outside! :) We headed toward the Thames and Westmister Bridge. The Thames was really pretty. We then went to London Bridge....why the heck did this bridge get a song after it? It was really ugly. But then we went further to Tower Bridge which was gorgeous. Before crossing it ...
London, England, United Kingdom danceraPhew. Made it to London. Still doesn't feel like we're actually here The problem with traveling is the whole travel part. Getting from A to B usually involves a few more letters and numbers in between, and often more than you thought. The following is a post about our travel from our landing in Chicago to our arrival at our hostel in London. We're trying to convey the actual experience here, so what I'm saying is that the post is long. Long with a lot happening that has very little ex...
London, England, United Kingdom dangabesisaakLondon! Are we actually in London? We're not exactly sure yet. Another epic entry, but it was an epic day. We're gonna have to stop doing stuff just so we don't have to write so much, I mean seriously. Ok, readers digest version at the bottom for those who don't have any attention span and wanna seem interested. For everyone else, you're brave souls and we love you for it. It commences. Our hostel, which was right across the road from the British Museum, was a very old house (not sure h...
London, England, United Kingdom dangabesisaakI couldn't wipe the grin off my face... 24hrs and 2 stopovers ago i had no idea what to expect. The flight gave me time to plan my attack, and when i touched down on the endless green fields of the UK, i was on a roll. This place is so different to anywhere else i've been, but everything i expected. I can only take an educated guess considering i've only explored the two blocks adjacent to the hostel i'm staying at. I managed to sidestep that ******* 'jetlag', he sucker puched me with 3 dinne...
