Hot tea

Arrived fresh from the train into the heat and bright lights of cosmopolitan Shanghai. As foreigners we still stick out, attracting photo requests from the locals, but at least here - unlike on the train - they won't be staring at us from the end of our beds as we sleep... The acrobat show has definitely been a highlight, ending with the nail- …

had breakfast in the hotel dining room which is a beautiful, beautiful room with old world charm. had several dishes that we didn't know what it was, but we managed to get full. We then walked
to Nanjing Road Pedestrian street which is known as "The first street of China ". It's full of shops and you could shop all day. We then walked to find …

I love Shanghai! I think it may be my favorite city so far. The skyline is just so beautiful. Our hotel is just at the end of The Bund which is the walk along the river and across from all the skyscrapers.
We started walking across the bridge this morning and 3 young Chinese girls stopped us and asked where we were from. They were 2 students …

Splashdown Shanghai

I have been in Shanghai since Friday morning and the heady combination of jet lag, hazy smog and the Gotham City-esque skyline, make me feel as if I have been catapulted into a sci-fi movie, featuring a lot of Chinese people. Shanghai is a scintillating city on a jaw dropping scale, growing exponentially every second, where the brilliance of …

We are trying to like Shanghai!

A travel blog entry by dwmjmm

Last nights attempt to find somewhere to eat wasn’t too successful - everywhere close by seemed to be closed or closing so we ended up eating in the hotel restaurant (accompanied by a tape of Christmas songs!). After another very fitful nights sleep due to the traffic noise we set out to explore some more.
We walked part way down …

The location of the hotel is excellent with easy walking to the Bund. The size of the rooms, even the non executive rooms are a very good size but very tired and the bathrooms rather dated. If you can, upgrade to the executive wing as the rooms are enormous, the bathrooms fresher and there's wifi in the room. Otherwise, the free lobby in the wifi is ok but the lobby can be very busy and noisy with weddings in the ballroom and not much seating.

The breakfast was ok with fruit and a large selection of asian options. The staff are friendly and in general everyone speaks good english.
