This place was amazing. Such a historical setting, with beautiful antique furnishings! Across the bridge from the Bund, the hotel is in a prime location. Highly recommend!

The location of the hotel is excellent with easy walking to the Bund. The size of the rooms, even the non executive rooms are a very good size but very tired and the bathrooms rather dated. If you can, upgrade to the executive wing as the rooms are enormous, the bathrooms fresher and there's wifi in the room. Otherwise, the free lobby in the wifi is ok but the lobby can be very busy and noisy with weddings in the ballroom and not much seating.

The breakfast was ok with fruit and a large selection of asian options. The staff are friendly and in general everyone speaks good english.

Wake up to a rather grey day. Yesterday was was so clear we thought we were going to be lucky for the whole our stay but we are finding how changeable the weather in China can be. A slight change in wind direction and in comes the smog.

Well for those of you who have been following us, you will know we were due to take side car tour around the city but alas our plans were scuppered due to some really bad rain overnight and the morning. Not deterred though our excellent guide Apple came to our rescue and provided a day in Shanghai to remember.

Arrived this morning after a sweltering night on the train to a really good downpour. Met by a lovely Chinese lady guide. She took me to my hotel on the Bund, built in 1912 and a bit shabby. My room was not ready so I went to breakfast in this beautiful room called the Peacock room. Photos to follow as it is locked tonight.
