We are both here!

We are both here in London!!! It was crazy getting here. After landing in Dublin, where Anna was waiting for me, we got on the bus, and headed to the main bus station. There we were going to try to catch the bus for the Port, only to find out that it wasn't there for another 4 hours. One man told us, it's a nice day, and just a 20 minute walk to the port, so we headed off on our first adventure... and hour and a half later we made it to the port... to find out that it wouldn't take us to Live...

The Original Bus Tour!!

So we finally had a really really busy day... the original bus tour took us all around London. Plus we had nifty little headphones that told us all about the history as we flew by it. Now the weather here has been great for fall... not so great for sightseeing. The sun had to fight to come out all day long... but when it did it was wonderful! We started out trying to find where the buses actually pick passengers up. Not as easy as it sounds. So finally, we took off after a bus to see where it...

Paper Seat Covers Vs Toilet Paper

Travel Lesson #1 - Mistaking paper seat covers for toilet paper is not something I care to mistake again.

Slept most of the way on the plane thanks to Gravol which is really supposed to help with your stomach and motion sickness but has a strange way of knocking you out yet upsetting your stomach. Sat on the plane with a chatty artist lady, who complained about most everything except for the food, which she thought was "fantastic!"...strange. She followed me all the way to the bagg...

Scones, jam & cream

I am back in London again. I am staying in a dodgy hostel in Kings Cross. Good location, but the hostel itself is a bit rundown. Awful showers etc. My dorm has 16 beds! Despite all the potential for noise I managed to sleep in today quite a bit. Feeling very sleepy after a week of late nights and a few early mornings thrown in. I caught the train back from Southampton yesterday morning. My friend Jo met me at Waterloo. Great to see her again!

We found my hostel and dropped my things o...

2 days in London

Last Wednesday and Thursday, Eric and I went to London. We got on the train at 9:23 am, and got to London 45 minutes later. First thing we did was find our Hostel, called Ashlee House. We checked in and left our backpack at the reception desk in a safe, then we headed out exploring. We got a subway pass and headed over to where the London bus tours start. We got on the bus and went around for a bit. The bus tour turned out to be a great deal. It was a hop on hop off tour, which means... well....

Forty three hours without sleep and counting

Yeh, I know... I should be in bed snoozing by now but can't sleep. The adrenaline's pumping despite being awake for 43 hours. But I've made it to London... just... I think given that today's landing into Heathrow was probably the most dangerous I've ever been involved in. And poor timing as well... just as I was starting to nod off and start dreaming, the plane landed into Heathrow and decided to do a sudden jerky kind of a flip with its right wing, just metres from the ground. No damage luck...

Back to Amsterdam

I was out in probably less than 5 minutes last night. Couldn't even remeber trying to get to sleep. Ashlee House in London turned out to be one of those hostels I can highly recommend for other budget travellers to London. Many times better than the sterile YHA I stayed in on Oxford St. It was made better by rooming with Jim... a young wheat farmer from Moora, WA. He's surfing himself around the world and was great to talk to for the short time I was in London. He's on his way to Bordeaux in ...

Ahh the English

After a particularly uncomfortable 2.5 hour flight from Rome, sitting next to a lady with a large bum while suffering from a nasty headache due to the air pressure in the plane I arrived at Gatwick Airport. I caught the train to King's Cross which is right by my hostel. It was raining of course but not heavily. It is so nice to be in a country where everyone speaks English and where the culture is similar to my own. I couldn't help but smile when I heard the English accent and smelt familiar ...

London Dungeon?

If I had written this entry three hours ago as I had planned, I would have been cracked out, jet lagged, and generally incoherent. But after a prime disco nap, I'm ready to leave the awesome Ashlee hostel and go to Fabric. It's relieving to know that I can actually meet and talk to people here, most of them marked with a Travellers' crown of thorns of sorts--the enormous backpack, day pack over the stomach, and ratty clothing, draggin their feet down the street. I have been walking around wit...

Camden Town Shopping

We somehow rolled out of bed and Attiq snuck back into the hotel to join us and Tash for some shopping in Camden Town. I'm not exactly sure how he was functioning as he and Piers continued the party until the wee hours of the morning.. We hopped onto the Northern Line and got off at Camden Town, a funky shopping area where the people range from punks, to goth, to hip-hop to loser tourists (oops, that's us!). We made our way throughout the streets and eclectic shops, making a purchase ...
