        ... Landmark. Jacksonville was once a thriving county seat but when the railroad passed it by and went to Medford instead, it went into decline. That turned out to be a good thing in a way, because Medford and other towns grew and modernized, while Jacksonville stayed the same!

        ... as well as fuel for cooking. So we only stayed for the day and enjoyed a hike to Garfield Peak. This enormous volcanic lake is very deep and clear, so it absorbs all the colors except blue and purple. This gives it a very distinct color, and the sheer size of the lake is really impressive.

        Later, we did end up doing some car-camping on Mount Rainier. We were both too tuckered out after all the moving ...

        ... hood-restaurant-ashland). Mimosa = Check, most amazing veggie breakfast sandwich I've ever had = Check, great coffee = Check! They also make their own small-batches of home made hot sauces.

        Final stops in Oregon were made for post card stamps, tiger balm (sore neck from driving), more coffee, and gas (last chance to not have to pump it myself!) And then, it was off to Redding to see my sweet Aunt Marsha!

        ... surrounding hills and mountains a little, and tonight we could see stars, so hopefully is improving. Don't think I said before that on the outskirts of Ashland is the infamous motel that was used in the Hitchcock movie Psycho (the Bates Motel!!) Quite hot, and we totally relaxed in the afternoon. Had a picnic lunch in the beautiful park of the remaining cheese and nuts from the Rogue Creamery to tide us till dinner, and then stayed ...

        ... I was worried Matsu would get scared riding by himself but he did great. He was worried when Danielle's crazy horse, Curly, came up to his horse, Pony Girl, and tried to bite it. Danielle's horse galloped and trotted around wildly, wherever it wanted to with her constantly yelling "Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!" and pulling back on the rains.
