... I then took us the wrong way to the walking path that led up 'Castle Hill', the large red cliff fronted hill that overlooks Townsville and out towards Magnetic Island. ... crocodiles - but they were behind a fence and fairly uninteresting. Big, lazy prehistoric beasts! Rachel braved it by feeding a load of lorikeets - which swarmed her like something out of the Hitchcock movie, landing on her head, pecking out of her hand and surrounding her like they hadn't eaten for days. ... season starts in November and lasts until April. There are nets up in Townsville and Arcadia but not on Horseshoe Bay. A group of young Americans didn't see the risk but they were the only ones in the water - Darwinism at its finest. The beach runs straight out of the bush but for a short single road with a couple of cafes and picnic benches. Another amazing spot. Today I started my journey across the world. I cried saying goodbye to Theo. I'm going to miss him so so so so much it's not funny. Not sure how I am going to move to Brisbane without him next year. After leaving Ingham, we continued south to a tiny place called Balgal Beach. Here we free camped a few days, 20 metres from the beach. It was so beautiful and peaceful with only room for 10-12 small to medium sized caravans. There were picnic tables and BBQ's under cover, soft green grass, tropical trees and a War Memorial.
