Arequipa: Traurige Einsicht

Peru, I don't like you.

The most pleasant city in South America?

We arrived in Arequipa after a long night bus - the bus didn't arrive in Nazca for nearly 2 hours after it was supposed to depart, leaving Casey and I to freeze at the terminal. Hence we arrived late in the morning, but had enjoyed a better sleep on the bus as we forked out a little extra for full-cama seats - first class on the bus. We checked …

12th April 2014

Another typical Peruvian breakfast of bread and jam we ventured out to explore the city. Cobbled streets leading to the beautiful Plaza de Armas square. Stomachs rumbling we found a lady with a wok at the side of the street who didn't speak a word of Spanish but we managed to figure out we would be having noodles with what …

Arequipa and Colca Canyon

After a 12 hour coach journey overnight from Huacachina, we arrived at 8am to our Hostel.

The main purpose for this destination was to visit the Colca Canyon, the deepest Canyon in the world at 4KM. Another reason was to spot the Andean Condure in the wild! (This bit excited me! *amie*)

Day Eighty Three - Wednesday 28th November 2012

Having rolled in at the crack of dawn, we took a taxi from the bus station to the Casa de los Pingüinos, where we had made a reservation for two nights. Happily, we were able to check into our room immediately and even have breakfast there despite not having stayed the night. We unpacked and …

great location, enough of everything, 2 kitchens lots of showers, washing sink on the roof, comfy beds, great social areas, not too noisy, I know I'm old, great outdoor space. Really well set up but not a "party hostel" highly recommend.

This hostel was great - really friendly staff, safe and secure and most of all had a really good vibe. The communal areas were perfect and there is loads to do, both in the hostel and the tours etc that the hostel can provide

Felt very at home here, received a proper welcome and tour of the place, sorted out the tours we wanted straight away. Great TV also. Convenient for the centre of town if you don't mind a 5 minute walk. Felt very secure there and they made us very welcome to stay the last day for our 9pm bus out.

Fabulous facilities, Friendly staff, private single room was small though and games room is a little cramped but very good choice for some relaxation. Free transfer to city in the morning from 9-10.30am

Yes, it has moved outside of the central part of town, but it is only a 4 sole taxi ride away. The hostel is very friendly, very safe with excellent security, two of the biggest tvs ever for a bit of tv or dvd watching. A cracking kitchen and a nearby supermarket.
This hostel has such a friendly atmosphere and you end up making friends with everyone and anyone.
    Very much recommended!!!!!
