The people are nice (especially the bartender Roberto), the location is good (right around the corner from the bus station and a close walk to plenty of restaurants and tour companies), the amenities are great (a pool with a bar attached and a nice garden area).

          Overall, no complaints

The courtyard was nicely landscaped and had picnic tables and hammocks. There was a pool and a bar at the back. Rooms had air conditioning and rocking chairs outside. I can't speak about the breakfast as we left too early to have it. We stayed in the dorms and the beds were comfortable.

The staff here was very accommodating and nice. They toured us around all their available rooms and made a reservation for us with just a days notice and we got a private room with private bathroom for less money than we paid for a dorm room at another hostel in town. It is a little more quiet and laid back here, but we liked it better that way. The rooms were large, nice, comfortable, and clean. Would definitely recommend.

I got up around 6 to get ready for the day and eat breakfast. I was expecting to get 30 minutes to eat but my driver was early. The in house restaurant does a decent job of it and were nice enough to get me a to go plate. I ate on the way to the first stop, the Arenal hanging bridges. All in all there were 7 suspensions bridges throughout the …

Arrival in San Jose and travel to La Fortuna

I didn't account for the hours lost flying from LA to San Jose CR so the 7 hour flight I thought I had to sleep on was really 5. Oops. Alamo rental couldn't be bothered to have the car I reserved available so I had a private transfer from San Jose to Arenal . It's 3 hour drive I could easily see me turning into 5. Without a copilot I'd have either …

Our trip to Costa Rica finally left the city and into the volcanic territory of Arenal where we met a rather relieved and helpful soul in Joe. As a background, he had been our American host via email for ages, trying to sort out options for transportation, being incredible helpful so when he saw us he had a genuine, 'oh great, you're here' look …

Sunday morning in Tilaran, I have some German biscuits for breakfast washed down with orange juice. Some other travellers are already at the bus station waiting for the 7am to La Fortuna. It costs about 3 and a very scenic bus ride lasted just over two hours skirting the perimeter of Lake Arenal.

In La Fortuna, I walk the short distance …

... The construction of these roads did not account for passing areas nor the steepness of the road grade. So down hill on the other side of the hill was still a problem because of the long line of cars. The drive was a test in patience.

Even when the road way was clear the maximum speed limit was 80 kilometers an hour (50 mph) and the opportunities to get going that fast were far and few between. Again along the roadway ...
