Petra, Jordan (And Indiana Jones!)

... Treasury because it was rumored that the large urn located near the top of the façade contained treasure. (While this was untrue, still there were people who shot at the urn in the hopes that it would crack and any treasure contained within would fall to the ground for retrieval! You can still see some of those “shot” marks today.)

From what Nassir told us, the architectural style of The Treasury is quite unique in the ancient world – since ...

... at less and there are actually road rules though they still don't seem to be too into seat belts which i've gotten used to. No more searching for a non existent seat belt every time i get in a car.

They take tourism very seriously here and as a result they are always trying to give you the best service possible whereas in Egypt they seemed to take tourists more for granted. That's the impression i got anyway. They are also quite ...

4. + 5. Tag - Petra

Exploring the Rose Coloured City

... our guide had said that we needed to support the hotel so we all shelled out the 10JD ($15) for the meal.

It was cooler in Jordan, and because I was trying to dry my laundry I decided we'd sleep with the window open that night. I must have forgotten where I was because at 5 am the call to prayer rang out and woke Carla and I up. It was pretty loud. I liked hearing it during the daytime but I could think of nicer ways to be woken up ...

Looking for Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail

... as Petra is actually a large burial site. I guess it’s a bit like the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Except people also lived at and around Petra as well.
Throughout the entire area that is part of Petra there are about 850 tombs, so the area is huge. You could never see it all in a day, never mind the three hours we had on site.
We eventually did get to the end of the Siq and saw the Treasury. This is the tomb that was made famous in Indiana Jones and the Last ...

Israel Part II + Jordan

... and beer. Unexpected, but welcome, we figured that we were safe. So Becca began to change for our walk around the Yehuda market when his buddy (lets call him Bellhop II) comes bursting in bringing extra water. Becca literally dove into the bathroom...Bellhop II apologized profusely. Since he was 'family', we just said "don't tell your Mother". Not to be outdone, the night before leaving Jerusalem, a hotel attendant (different hotel) arrives at our door after 11pm ...

Amazing Petra!

... and not too welcome so I walked back, took the crazy ex river route back again and finally finished my Petra trip. o good, but so tired.

I met a cool Italian that night who told me of a good place in Amman, I booked up my ticket and stepping over the rediculouly drounk passed out Swedish guy on the floor with a massive alcohol problem I went to sleep.

P.S Florence got back fine - thank god.

Now, it 6.30am, my legs dont work properly and I am off to Amman.

... down with warm water and then used this spatula like thing to ex foliate you and it a lot of foliate came off. After that rinsed again and then came the soaping down and massage. This was nice but also a bit unpleasant at the same time. the massage was great but the unpleasant bit was it tickled sooo much. Have you ever had a shower and had to get out for some reason for a bit and left all the suds on you, how much does it tickle. It was like this and I couldn't stop laughing, I tried ...

Petra with Matt, Sarah, and Salam

7:30 was departure time so it was another early morning!  Sarah(Jaena's daughter) and Salam(Sarah's best friend) came to my apartment and then it was off to get coffee and muffins for the trek to Petra.  In the car, I was the only one that had been to Petra before and I was traveling with 2 natives!  I felt like I was on a field trip to DC but it was Petra instead.  The trip down took about 3 hours and it was filled with stops to take pictures of camel ...

Petra wonder of the world is amazing!

... killing me after walking for 5 hours. Petra itself has more sights that I imagined and it was awsome just walking around and seeing it all, all the litte caves in the rock and the grand buildings carved into the rocks. I am going back tomorrow to do more sightseeing. Again like Wadi Rum it is hard to describe it but you should defiantly see the photos as some of them are good and gives you a general idea of it. I am off now to eat a 4 Dina all you can eat salad and BBQ.
