Bye, bye Fiji
It is my third and final day in Fiji and I'm ready for New Zealand!! I could live without the humidity and over 150 (yes, I counted!) mosquito bites but it was a blast to snorkel and be on the water. Day 1 - My first snorkeling experience was just off the beach and I could swim to it. My reaction to the drop-off area surprised me - I was scared …
Bula, Bula - Night 148
12:15 local time an Air Pacific Boeing 737-300 rumbles down the tarmac at Brisbane International Airport bound for Nadi, Fiji thus ending the passenger in seat 32A's time in Land Down Under. As we lift through the clouds I look back at the verdant landscape of Moreton Island and wondered silently to myself if I will ever return to this place. The …
The Blue Lagoon - Night 149
Promptly arriving at 7am, the shuttle bus was filled with passengers anxious to get off the mainland and out into the small islands west of Viti Levu. I had booked a six-day/five night package visiting two island sand offering two nights on a boat. The first five day would be spent in the Yasawa Islands with a day sailing adventure to the Mamanucas …
Cave Diving - Night 150
Heavy, tropical rain fell all through the night. In my infinite wisdom I left both my towels and my swimming trunks out on the line. Even with the rain and the nets that we slept underneath, the mosquitoes still had a field day on my feet and ankles. Breakfast consisted primarily of Fijian sweet bread and various fruits and melons. On the agenda …
Sailing the Mamanucas - Night 154
I have a strange yearning for 7-Up. Seriously, this is what I thought when I woke up today. I had been fiending bacon as well, but the Bounty Island staff delivered in the form of an immense breakfast buffet. The only thing missing was the funny guy in a hat cooking made-to-order omelets. The two Dutch girls and I had a sailing trip planned for the …

TravelPod Member ReviewsAquarius on the Beach Nadi
We stayed here for 2 nights. The food was great - especially the chocolate cake.
The people were very nice and accomodating. On the first night however the air con leaked, and i was woken to the constant drip drip drip. and the tap in the sink had the macial ability to move about when it was meant to be still....
on the whole though it was fine. it was what we paid for and it suited us.

After a trip round the mainland we had 2 nights to kill before getting out to the Yasawa Isalnds so we went to the Nadi Bay area between the airport and town which is full of of little hostels/hotels of varying levels of quality and size. Aquarius wasn't the cheapest in the group but it was still very cheap. Right on the beach, decent menu (although not the biggest choice the food still more than varied and tasty enough). Nice pool also, and a great view along the beach at sunset.
Staff were freindly and helpful enough although they were a bit slow to do anything (even going on Fiji time), it did get a little frustrating when we were trying to organise our Yasawa Flyer tickets and Coral VIew reservations through their front desk. However, again, nothing to complain about really.
We took a dorm that sleeps four but talked them into keeping it exclusively for us at no extra cost, which they were more than happy to do. The room was clean with good aircon and prvate bathroom, beds squeaked a fair bit but then it was cheap so not exactly a deal breaker.
The gift shop nearby had a good supply of tourist stuff to spend your money on when using up those last Fiji dollars before heading to your next destination, as well as the usual sun creams, snacks, postacards, stamps etc etc etc.
I spent a fair bit of time sipping cocktails in their beach hammocks too, something that most places have here but it was a nice touch nontheless.
All in all it's a decent enough place to spend a night or two in resonable comfort at reasonable expense whilst waiting to transit elswhere. Compared to the standard and facilities offered by the other places in the area, this one seems to sit exactly in the middle which is why I'm giving it a 3/5. It's location is spot on as it's close enough to both the airport and town to be approx FJ$10-15 taxi ride in either direction. The beachfront location plus it's proximity to the other hostels/hotels in the area make it a great place to meet people travelling through Fiji and possibly score some new travel buddies. It is also considerably cheaper than the places around Denarau Marina which are mch more upscale affairs, more for holidays than travellers ;-)
Would I stay here again? Probably yes, although I would be tempted to try some of the other places in the same complex such as Smugglers Cove, just for variety etc.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes
