Phabulous Philly

A travel blog entry by owilliams

Sorry about the title, I couldn't think of any words that worked that begin with a 'P' so I had to go with phabulous to keep the alliteration going! Yet again I'm on a Greyhound bus, taking advantage of the free wifi. Boylan nearly missed it though. He was in the market down the road from the bus station, getting a kebab of all things, and had only …

Philadelphia - wetter than Niagara!

A travel blog entry by beckybrookes

So we made a flying but hectic visit to Philadelphia!

After 2 nights on the buses and a day in Niagara, we were fairly shattered and hot when we arrived at the Apple hostel! This was our first hostel where we were sharing in a dorm so we set ourselves up with bunk beds and decided to go back out to find some food! The receptionist at the …

Philadelphia, more food, more fun and more thunder

A travel blog entry by beckybrookes

For our second day in Philly we headed south to see the Italian market, South street, which is famous for its street artists, exhibits and food! As we'd had a lazy morning we were in between breakfast and lunch so headed into a classic American diner, although instead of food I decided an Oreo milkshake was much more inviting :-)

We …

Actually, Philadelphia was much larger than I had expected. Furthermore, it was the capital city of the U.S for 10 years in the late 18th century. I didn't know the facts and tried to skip the historic city, but I spared only one day for sightseeing there and I was right.

When I arrived at the city, it was at about half past five. Still …

The Streets of Philadelphia

A travel blog entry by laurenbelle

On my last full day in Washington I tried to cram as much in as I could. I booked a free walking tour of the monuments so I would actually understand what I was looking at. We met at the National Mall and walked past the phallic Washington Monument, glimpsed the White House, visited the World War II and Vietnam War memorials and finished up at the …

Great location only minutes from Independence park and close to subway stations to get about. Off Market and Chestnut streets so no particular noise issues.
The dorm was clean and well organised with free locker of moderate size. Free wifi and towels/linen. No breakfast. Quite a steep climb through narrow stairs to get to the top
Best part about this place was the awesome staff. Very helpful and friendly with advice on just about everything. Movie nights with beer if interested.
Only downers the bathrooms, a shower and 2 toilets were broken during my time, and the showers were subpar with bad pressure and a waterjet like that from a caravan.
