Sailing the Beagle Channel
So what am I going to do today? That's right, I'm gonna sail around the Beagle Channel.
I had a rest this morning to try and give my leg a break and let it heal a little. Carla, I really hope it isn't shin splints as you said, as I have had them before and it took ages for it to heal. There is no way I can rest it. I've got to keep moving …
Eager Beavers
Today I went out on my first organised trip. This was an excursion to Lake Esmeralda.
I was picked up from the hostel around 10 am and jumped into the 4WD where I met my other fellow travellers for the day. They were all Argentinian. Thank goodness some of them spoke English. Our guide for the day was Frederico. We were driven along Route …
Pull the other one!!!!!
Yesterday I didn't do much. I just had a chill out day wandering around town and finding out where everything was. The town itself isn’t that pretty, it’s the surrounding landscape that gives it that wow factor. The Andes curve around the town like a horseshoe and hugs it. The snow capped mountains and the Beagle channel in front of the …
Thought I was going to die!
Today was my last day in El Calafate as this evening I was flying down to Ushuaia.
I got up and had breakfast with Becky as she was leaving at 8 am. Boo, i'm on my own again and I really got on well with Becks. She's heading off to Santiago, but we may meet again either in Bolivia or Peru.
I wasn't being picked up from the hostel …
End of the World
Overview:
So Ushuaia´s claim to fame is being the southern most city (not town) in the world, it is also the port a lot of cruise ships use to go to the Antarctic peninsula. Like many towns it is not really a place to visit on its own (although it does have a very nice national park nearby) and really unless your planning on going on one of …

Great kitchen and living area´s. The staff are friendly and its close to everything. The rooms are large and the bathrooms have a great amount of room to get ready. I would stay here again.

Dorm rooms are a bit small, and toilets are downstairs which can be a wee bit annoying if you are in and upstairs dorm. However apart from these small inconveniences, i loved my stay at antarctica hostel. The staff were brilliant and went out of their way to be helpful. Facilities include towel , beds changed regularly, serviced laundry(advertised at 25 pesos but free if you booked with hostelbooking.com) which comes back neatly folded, socks matched etc. The lounge area was very confortable, and the kitchen well designed with plenty of room. I met lots of great people here. I would definitely recommend this place.

The hostel will get a good review from us, though it was nothing outstanding by any means. But for A$70 pesos per night for a dorm bed, I think they would have to wake me with a gentle massage each morning and have beds made of feathers for me to be really impressed. But Ushuaia is a very expensive town, so that really is as cheap as it gets. Good staff, clean rooms and facilities, and good breakfast also.
