Antarctica Hostel Ushuaia

Night bus , night bus, the evil night bus! Fortunately for us there was a deal on flights to Ushuaia so we wouldn't have to take the bus. After thousands of miles of constant travel we actually had butterflies in our stomachs, maybe it was for the 4 hr flight south (flying always feels more exciting than a bus)... but it was probably the excitement about seeing Patagonia!!! Arrived in Ushuaia at 8pm, booked into Antarctica Hostel....nice :o) ...but a bit more expensive than the rest of Argentina. Most of the hostels have been between 18 and 25pesos (3 or 4GBP), but this one is 30 (5GBP). It's really clean and friendly and has free internet so happy to pay a bit more. I am really starting to mellow, slow down, and relax now that I have reached Ushuaia. They call this place Fin del Mundo, End of the World, the last town before Antarctica. Really good fun here, Ushuaia at "fin del mundo" or the end of the world cos its most southerly city in the world. Even further south than Cork bouy. Antarctica Hostel was good craic. People staying in hostel were sound. Went to the most southerly irish pub in the world there to watch one of the rugby matches. We arrived in Ushuaia yesterday and it didnt feel like the "the end of the World". It was nice and sunny, beautiful for photographs and generally very nice. The city is nestled on the end of the Beagle Channel which runs out to the South Atlantic Ocean and is surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Tierra del Fuego mountain range. Our bus deposits us back in El Calafate with a few hours to kill before our flight to Ushuaia. We get to watch most of the England Argentina game though we have to leave just after the Argies take the lead to make it 2-1. It's a shame that we never got to see the Owen goals that eventually won it and have the last laugh at the expense of the Argies in the bar. Following the excitement of the glaciers I spent 16 hours of April 17th on a bus from the rapidly sprawling town of El Calafate (get there before it turns into Disney with Ice) to Ushuaia the southern-most city in the world. Arrived on Sunday afternoon down here in Ushuaia on the island of Tierra del Fuego. Ushuaia describes itself "the end of the world" , although actually there is another naval town , Puerto Williams , situated on the Chilean side of the island that is a bit further south.
