...oh wait, it is! Yes, we have reached Ushuaia, which is officially the most southern city in the world. The locals here like calling it exactly that, but in Spanish, of course - 'el fin del mundo', which does sound better. Founded in 1884, this city is only 1,000km away from Antarctica, yet 3,000km away from its own capital, Buenos Aires! We …

My first ´loss´ of the trip.

Just realised I´ve suffered my first´loss´ of the trip.

My beloved ´Dan Brodie
& The Grieving Widows´ baseball cap has disappeared. My guess is
that it fell out of my jacket pocket at the Magellan Strait ferry
crossing.

Well, Dan, your presence will be forever marked in South America now.

Ushuaia, and it's location in relation to the rest of South America and Antarctica.

Food porn. My first Argentinian steak. Argentinian rib-eye with egg and chips, accompanied by a 2013 Malbec.

Nice staff, nice hostel and nice kitchen with a good supermarket only around the corner. Stayed here on two separate occasions.

Dorm rooms are a bit small, and toilets are downstairs which can be a wee bit annoying if you are in and upstairs dorm. However apart from these small inconveniences, i loved my stay at antarctica hostel. The staff were brilliant and went out of their way to be helpful. Facilities include towel , beds changed regularly, serviced laundry(advertised at 25 pesos but free if you booked with hostelbooking.com) which comes back neatly folded, socks matched etc. The lounge area was very confortable, and the kitchen well designed with plenty of room. I met lots of great people here. I would definitely recommend this place.

The hostel will get a good review from us, though it was nothing outstanding by any means. But for A$70 pesos per night for a dorm bed, I think they would have to wake me with a gentle massage each morning and have beds made of feathers for me to be really impressed. But Ushuaia is a very expensive town, so that really is as cheap as it gets. Good staff, clean rooms and facilities, and good breakfast also.
