It was a weird feeling leavng the group and travelling as a twosome....it was also strange leaving behind the craziness in Rio for Bogota. It was surprisingly quiet here.

We didn't get up to a hell of a lot here. Just cruised around checking out the old town which was quite nice. We headed to a police museum that had a bunch of …

After many moons of summer attire, it was time for me to dig to the bottom of my backpack and find my wrinkly and musty jackets, pants, socks, and scarf. It was almost as exciting as getting a whole new wardrobe; chirstmas morning for a backpacker! The haunting overnight bus ride to Bogota lasted 20 hours and covered nearly 1,000 km. Our average …

When traveling alone, I become consumed by a strange euphoria that occupies all corners of my brain and body and sends me spiraling toward adventure...freedom. Rarely do I spend my days doing exactly what I want, when I want, with no concern to anyone else. It's so liberating. It feels decadent and wild. This natural high is often accompanied by a …

I've enjoyed my stay here. I was initially caught off guard by how chilly it stays inside the building (due to the architecture and weather..a bit like Cuzco, Peru) but they provide fluffy comforters AND a poncho! The staff is as helpful as they can be...there is a tourist office a few blocks away which is nice. The location is great...quiet yet central to the barrio.

Alegrias is by no means a party hostel, but it is still quite sociable, which balances it out a bit. It is in a good location (La Candeleria), has free wifi, and a decent kitchen.
