I met Dad in the airport in Lima. I had to wade through a huge crowd and hold up a sign with Peter Shearer on it. We haggled with a couple taxis and got a ride for $10 (official taxi). It was an experience. We went to the Ruins at Muacha Pachallacta in Miraflores. These were used since 400 AD for ceromonies, including many human sacrafices. They preferred to sacrafice young girls (12-25 years old). It was a pyramid of bricks that they intermittently built up over 300 years. It is not built ov...

Lima, Peru ivealisFebruary 28th; we arrived from Mexico to Lima Peru landing at 0600. Bleary eyed we got our bags and arranged a taxi to the Lima suburb of Miralores and to our hostal. After a quick breakfast we crashed on the bed till lunchtime. The hostal was a great place with amazing curios and collections from all over the world that people had left and the owners collected. However our room was an airless box and stifling. Thankfully we had a fan and it ran full blast the whole time we were there. Lima w...
Lima, Peru kasnsqueakOh my goodness! Where do I start! Today was educational to say the least. What an amazing first day of my trip. After arriving in Lima, Peru at four in the afternoon Daniel and I were ready to embark on our first adventure. So being the adventurous travelers we are we decided that instead of taking a cab we would take a bus. Being that the bus was cheaper and we would also "rub shoulders" with the locals, we thought this to be a grand idea right.......wrong! We were harassed the minute we ste...
Lima, Peru kwagssd3 Hey everyone,
We arrived yesterday safely. The journey was seriously long, Sao Paulo airport was weird, we kept getting lost and got short changed a couple of times....they adopted an interesting conversion rate due to the fact we looked like and turned out to be naive tired travellers!! The next leg of our flight took us over the Andes which was awesome! arrived local time about 12.30pm. The airport was practically empty and our luggage was the first out.
A taxi took us our h...

... the walls and there is a hokey reproduction of the rite of destroying a grain jar to appease the gods.
Tonight we attended a Peruvian Dance Show. They had representative dancers from several of the major cultures of Peru. The styles are very diverse and the dancers incorporate the audience in several of the dances. I may be prejudiced since I was selected to go up on the stage to perform with the tango group. I am a ham! :) Worth the money.
... the majority of the tourists got there, and were able to watch the sun emerge from behind the mountains and shine its light on Machu Picchu. We were told later that day that we had been fortunate enough to see the great Machu Pichu on one of the best days of the year. MP is apparently both the best and the least known in the Inca Ruins as it isn´t mention in any of the chronicles of teh Spanish conquistadors. The local Quechua farmers in the area new of ...
Lima, Lima, Peru lyndsaygillot... take all of them and the Peruvian students to lunch. Lunch was on campus but they got to try some new dishes - a drink made from black corn seasoned with cinnamon), an onion salad with lime juice, and compote, a dessert made with peach soaked in syrup. It was all pretty good but I think they enjoyed the company of the Peruvians students the most. They now have people to take them out when we come back to Lima next week.
