394 Shute Harbour Road Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia, 4802, (07)-4946-6312-

We were kicked out of our hostel in Airlie Beach this morning which left us an entire day and evening to wander without purpose around town before catching our all night bus down to 1770 at 11.30pm. We decide to go and play in a bead shop where we get very creative and make ourselves a little reminder of our time in Airlie. On a bus for 10 hours tonight - the distances are so huge - it would take 48hrs non-stop driving to travel from Cairns to Sydney. And to make matters worse our stalkers - ...
1770, Australia carolandthomasSo, we thought we would be clever and travel overnight to Airlie Beach. It made sense at the time as none of the buses left Hervey Bay and got into Airlie Beach at a reasonable time, plus we thought it would save on a nights accommodation. Well, it did save on a nights accommodation and though we've done longer journeys and travelled overnight before, this one was one of the worst. There was this really funky smell all the way, though we are not quite sure who it was, we know it wasn't us. We...
Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia charlieandsamNext we headed to the other main attraction along the east coast for a day trip to Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. A ferry ride over took us to the island and we were met our transport for the day, a strange combination of a minibus and a 4 wheel drive. We were in for some rough terrain we were told! We took our seats at the back of the bus, the bumpiest, and soon understood! Driving over the "streets" of sand had a rollercoaster feel to it as we were swinging left and ri...
Fraser Island, Australia emma_steve80The next day we were all up at 7:15am again. We set sail at around 8:30am and basically this day or indeed the morning was spent just getting back to the harbour. On the way back with every one's help we passed another boat called the 'British defender' twice, first on the inside then we pulled out and passed it again on the right. When we got back to the pier they took a group photo for anyone who wanted to buy it. Most people including me did not buy it. I then walked back to Airlie beach...
Airlie Beach, Australia ger1Digs We are staying at Airlie Beach YHA. 394 Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach 4802. And we are sailing for two days on the Condor.
Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, Australia grimboWe are in Queensland and according to Bill Bryson (author of Donw Under), there are more things that will kill you in Queensland than anywhere else in Australia. In Queensland, the height of the box jellyfish season is from October to may. During this time, when the jellyfish come inshore to breed, they render the beaches of the tropics useless to humans. This is mindboggeling when you look at the bay as serene and inviting as you would find anywhere, and yet there was no environment on earth...
Airlie Beach, Australia grizzlyWe knew it was going to be a good bus trip down from Townsville when we saw that our old mate Murray was driving! It was a 4 hour trip down. Pretty uneventful. Only stop-off was a dire petrol station in the middle of nowhere whose food counter gave you indigestion by just looking at it. We got into Airlie Beach about 3pm and checked into the YHA here. We only had the one night to kill as tomorrow we were booked on to our Whitsundays sailing trip. Hooked up with a dutch couple who were a reall...
Airlie Beach, Australia hayleyandlornaHello Again, Well, I've completed 4 days in Airlie Beach now and I'm not sitting in Cairns, so I guess it's time for a short update on whats been going on. The weather here has improved greatly from the chilly nights in Sydney, to the scorching days up here now in Cairns some 3000km away from each other. After getting back to Hervey Bay I decided against another long haul bus trip all the way up to Airlie Beach and decided on a stop over in a small town called Rockhampton. Getting there at ab...
Airlie Beach., Australia jb516088We arrived in Airlie Beach On Tuesday and we knew immediately that we liked it. The town is only small but has a lovely marina and the feel of a little Mediterranean village. We arrived quite late so we just checked in and settled down and Micha and Emma came round to our hostel and cooked us Thai Green Curry (as we had begun to miss Asian food!!). So that was delicious and so nice to be cooked for :-). After dinner we showered and got changed and went out for a night on the town which was a...
