Are Australians the global bogans???

A travel blog entry by john_tillett

Today I ended up on a tour of the Cinque Terre, five small towns perched on the Italian Riviera a couple of hours from Florence. Alas, the famous coastal walks were closed following a landslide a few days earlier, and we had to settle for a down hill stroll into Corniglia, the smallest of the Terre, where we enjoyed a very average …

Sleepwalking in Florence

A travel blog entry by john_tillett

For anyone concerned about the accuracy of a blog commenced a week into a trip, I can vouch for its validity…

Immediately after arriving in Florence, I went on a pre-booked tour of the city. Through random chance and circumstance, I ended up being the sole participant. The guide was an engaging (very) American woman called Jane and …

A drunken tour, and sampling cow guts in Tuscany

A travel blog entry by john_tillett

While on the train from Milan, I discovered that I had free access to the Internet. In addition to making me respect the Italian transport system, it allowed me to make rash decisions regarding my itinerary. Hence, the enthusiastic decision while on to book a fourteen hour tour of Tuscany for the next day.

The trip was busy …

An Art Idiot in the Uffizi

A travel blog entry by john_tillett

For the first proper day in Florence, I decided to tackle the grand Uffizi Gallery.

I have learnt from experience in the Louvre that I need direction in art galleries. Otherwise, I wander around aimlessly, inevitably looking to the paintings that depict something violent/are particularly colourful/are inadvertently humerous (probably for …

Lazy day again!

A travel blog entry by cbmaddixrn

I am some very disappointing news - we didn't make it to Lucca! We stayed out too late on Wednesday night and ended up sleeping in on Thursday. I have to save something to do when we return, right?
So today if Friday, June 17th, I am writing about the 16th because I played catch-up last night! We went out to dinner with friends from the hostel …

This was a fantastic stay. I stayed in a six bed dorm, which was a new experience for me, but an opportunity to meet new travellers. The bed was comfortable, the room was spotless. The other travellers were respectful and interested in meeting new people.

The bathroom was very neat, however, perhaps not ideal having the toilet and shower in the same room.

Very well located for a first visit to Florence.

You must stay here, don't even think twice about it. Though you must book in advance. I booked several months in advance and so many people are trying to get in now and they are booked solid, usually a month or two out. It's worth the wait. Location is absolutely perfect.
