So, you may have noticed the lack of entries recently. The reason for this is two-fold. Firstly, we haven't done a huge amount since the last blog entry, but secondly it is because I had a minor personal crisis. All will be revealed in the latest entry. After the dive we have a rest day in Cairns. The weather was hot, sunny, and only a few showers dotted around. We organised a hire car, and worked out the route we'd take, and that evening we splashed out on some rather nice seas food, includi...
Mission Beach, Queensland, Australia alanvDevelopments on the excitement front at last!!! A change in the weather in the last week has brought with it an increase in drinking! We have a few new housemates and it is only proper to welcome them in style with a nice roast dinner, yes?? well we went one better and decided, while on a night out (in the Sportsbar, for those of you who know Cairns) that we would develope the Roast dinner party into a very refined and grown up gathering of mature adults and hold a "Toga Party" It came at the...
Mission Beach, Australia andybStayed at Misson Beach for two days, could quite possible be the most boring place on the earth! There was one shop, one friggin' shop, I mean what do these people do all day? the suicide rate must be pretty high, I'm telling ya! Beautiful Beach but with it being right next to the rain forest it rained all the bloody time and I got eaten alive my mosquitoes. My hostel was skanky, everything smelt mouldy and my clothes were always damp. Phoned my mum back home and she said you guys were having...

We woke up and needed to go find some food, the bread that we had at Cairns we had finished, we decided to walk down along the bay thinking that there would probably be something nice down there... there was plenty of nice beach! this didn't help the hunger though, we ended up walking in a big circle and going to the little cafe they had in their Woolworths (food store, not the recently broken UK chain!)
After this we returned to the hostel with some food bits from Woolies, we dec...
So we booked a Greyhound bus which was well recommended to us as the way to go down Australia and we decided to go all the way to Melbourne on the ticket aswel so we would see even more of the East coast. Our first bus journey was a short one from Cairns to mission beach which only took 2 hours, a tiny part of the journey but the bus was spacious and comfy enough. Mission beach was not easy to get accomidation at so we ended up spread across a hostel in 3 different rooms. Jakc and Jony got pu...
Mission Beach, Australia chrishumps After a final night in Cairns we left very early on Friday morning on the Oz Experience bus heading to Mission Beach. On the way down we stopped at a crocodile farm where we held a baby croc and snake and watched the bigger crocodiles being fed meat by the keeper which was quite scary to watch. Emily was also happy to see her first Kangaroo!
Back on the bus we arrived at Absolute Backpackers just after lunch, where we settled into our dorm and then headed down to the beach with some fr...
Our first stop from Cairns was about 2.5 hours on the coach - a one horse town called Mission Beach..we stayed in a hostel which was cracker!! It was like the Summer Bay Caravan Park in Home and Away - the two managers were like Pippa and Tom and they looked after us so well.. Mission Beach main attraction is the beach funnily enough so we went and lay on it for most of Saturday - it has a bit of the sea sectioned off to swim in as there are so many stingers it isn't safe to swim in it.. On t...
Mission Beach, Queensland, Australia fifikerr I arrived from Airlie beach on Friday evening in time for the bottle O still to be open. I checked into Absolute Backpackers after a very long 9 hour journey. I missed out townsville and magnetic Island but there is not much to do or see there.
Mission beach is most famous for its skydiving and thought it would be a good idea to jump out of a plane at 14,000 ft. Everything went to plan and had a perfect landing back on earth on the beach. I paid for a dvd and pictures so will have the...
So the past few days I've just been making my way down the East Coast, killing a few days till my trip through the Whitsundays. I stopped at Mission Beach for the first day. Not too much going on there. Just spent the day chillin on the beach, which actually wasn't overly impressive. But I did have a canine companion for awhile that day as this dog on the beach, adorable and very well behaved, followed me as I walked along for a good ways. When I stopped and laid my towel down she laid down r...

Holy humidity! Can you ever tell that Mission Beach is at the edge of the tropics. It has been hot and humid, with a very slight breeze, all day. This morning, Katinka and I set out to walk the Kennedy Walking Track, a round trip of 7 km, with 'secluded beaches, rainforests and spectacular views'. After an hour of walking along Lovers Beach, we got to the entrance of the Track... only to realize that it was closed due to storm weather damage....

Mission Beach, 20th/21st October 2008: On paper, Mission Beach is a paradise. Halfway between Townsville and Cairns, it is a series of small towns by the beach, surrounded by rainforest and the Wet Tropic World Hertiage Area. Hiding in that very rainforest is the very rare and somewhat dangerous Cassowary. A few km off the beach, the Great Barrier Reef bubbles away under the tropical sun. Idealic. In reality though, things were a bit ...
