Observations

... green stars hanging everywhere. The kids say they receive gifts and money on Moon Festival Day.

The Mid-Autumn festival is named "Tết Trung Thu" in Vietnamese. The Vietnamese version of the holiday recounts the legend of Cuội, who was told by his father to take care of a sacred banyan tree while he was away. Cuội played with his friends and forgot about the tree. He saw his father coming home and suddenly remembered about the ...

So we reluctantly accepted...

We were the only people in the restaurant (which was beautiful by the way - it was a floating restaurant over a lake, made out of bamboo) which made it all the more suspenseful. Our Journey Through Vietnam

... had booked. Not a good nights sleep, Roger woke thinking something was on his arm turned on the light to find that our bed was full of bugs! yuk! They had abviously had a meal of the previous residents as all those that Roger squashed were full of old blood, luckily they hadn't bitten us but the bed was a mess. So we had to wake up the staff at 2.10 am to get them to come and see and give us another room. Hoi An is noted for its tailoring so I ordered a sundress at the ...

Ahoy Hanoi

Lots has been going on in the last week and I will do my best to recover most of it. First of all leaving the airport in any country has to be the most stressful part of travelling and does not leave a good first impression. We payed about twice as much as we were supposed to for the cab but after being yelled at slamming his fist on the car we thought it would be best to just pay the money and get out of there. We managed to get the very last beds in a really ...

... out of the hostel so had to sleep on a sofa in the reception area, getting quite a few looks from passers by! When I awoke, the others were nowhere to be found and I felt very disorientated and dizzy. I made my way across the street and found them playing cards in the bar and looking at me as though I really didn't look my best! They had tried to find out how much it would cost us to cancel the $110 each trip if I was too ill to go and the manager had said it would ...

First stop in Vietnam

... Still she found nothing cheaper, thankfully the guy who offered the first deal was still optimistically hanging around waiting for a positive answer and so we dashed off in a taxi (at his expense) to the said hotel - which turned out a pretty good deal, for 140,000 Vietnamese Dong i.e. circa 8USD we got an en-suite bathroom, TV, fridge, a/c, and wifi connection. To our disappointment we didn't find any ...

The city is very nice: not tall buildings, narrow streets full of traders, thousands of scooters klaxonnent, some bikes, few cars ... to cross a street, we must launch and zigzagging in the middle of scooters and other gear rolling ...
We stay in Old Hanoi where for $ 6 we have air conditioning, satellite TV, refrigerator, bathroom with hot water, breakfast ...
