Broke the bank

After breakfast brought on cue without request, we, Greg the Aussie and me headed to the city on the train. I have to pay for shipping Suzy back to London Heathrow Airport and get the air waybill the get out of customs card for Suzy when I go to collect her from London.
I first go to a bank to cash some travellers cheques and then to the freight company to get the bill and final price. It was ...

Que?

... we had no telly but it was nicely stowed away in the arm rest, and 3 times the size of the back of the seat jobs, nice one. He movie selection was a bit guff so I watched series 1 & 2 of the IT Crowd back to back & some Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares so those 13 hours just flew by.

We arrived in Buenos Aires Argentina on the same day as we left, at pretty much the same time, which was a bit weird. The place has a metro which is quite convenient so we found the hotel ...

La Boca Street Festival

... life, the immigrants painted their humble homes in bright colors. Today, this neighborhood is called La Boca, literally "the mouth," and is still a poor and colorful neighborhood. However, one small street has achieved the success that the original immigrants were looking for. Caminito, again literally "little street," is the namesake of one of the most famous Tango songs. This, combined ...

Well Kirra needs boots Darlings! And Argentina has some good leather and the boots look very niiiiiceeeeee! I will update this more but for now I diligently fuel up at breakfast for the important tasks ahead for the first day of the conference and my two presentations. Buenos Aires

... that tickets go on sale the day of the game. So Sunday arrived, we went down to the stadium with a few other people from our hostel to get tickets....no luck, the ticket windows were not even open. So we decided that we would go down to the stadium an hour before the game and see about buying tickets from a scalper. There were some shady guys selling tickets which we didn't trust for more $ then we wanted ...

Things I May or May Not Miss About Buenos Aires

... the size of a tiny closet. 13) Shoplifting Detectors at the Grocery Store. Not kidding. I got stopped the other day because my package of 6 slices of ham had a little sticker on it that set off the detector. Of course I don't know that this is it, and the security guard starts going through my groceries looking for something--and I have no idea what!-- and I'm trying to help her, pulling out random things, to which ...

It's A Tough Life, Really.

... when I say "we" I mean my friends from la residencia (or "the res"). I wrote last week about starting my volunteer work on Tuesday.. and it's going really well. It's not exactly what I expected - I thought there would be a lot more to do for the kids, besides play games, color, do homework, etc., but it is still very rewarding. The kids are great - it depends on which neighborhood you visit each day but they're all kinds of fun and it's ...

CHAPTER 1: INTRO AND ARGENTINE CUSTOMS ESCAPE

... chap, spent the last 4 years traveling the world on his bike, now about to go down to Tierra del Fuego then back up to BA and home. Central America from all reports is a complete pain in the butt for very little reward it seems. Typical border crossings will take half a day and some UN negotiation, so any future decision to bypass this compressed intestinal isthmus of aggravation are well founded. South America in comparison is a joy. Having been through Central America ...

German Itineraries

We got the boat from Colonia to Buenos Aires which made a nice change from the bus and was a really quick way to get from one to the other. The trip itself was lovely, if a little chilly outside on deck but Ed and I got to do our titanic impression which was fun! We also got to see the sunset from the ocean which was also pretty cool, although it was a bit on the cloudy side so not as pretty as we had hoped. Walking around the ferry was funny as we rocked back and forward and fell ...
