We decided that today had to be an easy one as we had done so much the day before, so the alarms were off and staggered down to breakfast about nine o'clock. Very late for us! After breakfast we made the fifteen minute walk to Montmartre, and then used the funicular railway for the last stretch up the steep hill to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur. What a wonderful view (but to be outdone in the afternoon!) over Paris. The Basilica is much better to visit than ...

... I'm glad we went up as we got to see Paris lit up and watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle at 6:00. We also got to watch the ceremony for the re-lighting of the eternal flame, which is done every night at 6:30.

This was the first day we did not stop back at the hotel in the afternoon to rest our feet. But we don't have to get up as early tomorrow morning so they can rest longer in bed tonight. I'm just hoping to not fall when I try to get up in the morning!

Musée d'Orsay was our next stop, where the students were able to see all the works of art from the Impressionist period (my personal favorite) and get some fantastic views of the city. From there we walked along the Seine and saw Pont des Arts, which is the bridge with all the love locks on it ... If you don't know the story, google it ... It's pretty neat! ...

... nice to see the matchup turn out a little more interesting. Still, I think I've never been that excited during a game, and watching it in Paris in our hotel was quite an experience. On our final day in Paris, we ate breakfast at the same cafe outside of The Louvre, and headed in the entrance around noon. It was crowded with tourists at that time, although still probably much less busy than during other times of the year. We saw a few of the sights, including the Mona ...

... Sunset on the Seine at Lavacourt, Winter Effect'. From there we continued towards the Place de la Concorde (a big square with an Egyptian Obelisk) and strolled down the streets alongside the Louvre. We were passed by lots of police cars and diplomatic cars which was very noisy. Apparently Paris is hosting a meeting of African rulers. We then headed vaguely northward towards the Opera house. The outside isn't that impressive but the inside sure makes up for it. If it could ...
