... so I did ( Another Fine mess she got me into ) as after I had gone in the door locked behind me a could not get out so I started bashing on the door and until I heard a voice on the other side saying I will get some help .After a few stressful few seconds I was out and you can imagine I was ready to kill someone starting with Tilly but we headed off down the Avenue De Clichy and where did we find ourselves but in a street with sex shops and live ...

Oh La La what have I been doing for 2 weeks!

No beetles to be found

I have enjoyed France so far apart from a few things. One thing was the bus fine which nearly had me on the next plane home and the other thing is the fact that I have not seen one beetle. Not one! I see about 3 different minis every day (they love them here) and an old Citroen or two. However, not one beetle or even a Kombi. I did see ...

Nighttime in Paris

Arriving in Paris in the late afternoon, my first taste of the city was at night as I decided to walk from one end to the other. First walking through the Louvre area, I viewed the massive museum which was first a fortress (~1200), then a royal palace (16th century), and now possibly the world's greatest museum (began in 1793). Without seeing it firsthand it's quite difficult to fathom the size of the place as the structure just ...

The final day (in country)!

... favorite characters in history (something about chicks who wear armor and all that), and it's been cool to follow pieces of her story around Normandy on this trip (recall Orleans had some good stuff). I suppose it's fitting that we ended in the place where she ended. They have the place where she died marked, but it has been destroyed several times since then, and so they have now done it up all modern-like. They built a modern-style architecture church there in the 1970s ...

Working it Out

... with me to the Sacre Coeur. It is beautiful at night and it was nice to go with someone else to try and banish negativ associations. Then back at the hostel ended up chatting to a fellow Torontonian, and she invited me to go with to a club. This club was super cool! It was under the pont Alexander trois bridge and it had exposed stone arches inside and really...it was just so awesome. But I didnt stay long cause I was tired and didnt want to miss the hostel lock ...

It was a euphonium

... small part somewhere in the piece, but they all employed non-traditional playing techniques including harmonics, creating uncharacteristic sounds from each instrument. We were surprised to hear voices early in the 1st movement, which continued throughout and rather dominated the work. They were indistinct, coming from all corners of the room, yet no vocalists were visible. We finally understood they were being piped ...

A week in the city of lights.(Take 2!)

... As I left the station I instantly feel in love with this city. I emerged to find a light wispy fog laying over the tree lined, cobblestone streets and the whole scene was bathed in the pale pink light of the early morning. It was incredibly beautiful and because it was Paris and no one wakes up early, I had what seemed like the whole city to my self. Over the next few days I visited most of the ...

Paris for my birthday

... Not only is it much easier to get to Waterloo Train Station; but you only need to be there 30-45mins before you are due to depart. This saves major travelling time and money. The cost of travel on the Eurostar is also quite competitive with the cheap flights available with budget airlines. By the time you catch a train to Heathrow and pay the flights and taxes; it works out pretty much the same. But the convenience is far better on the Eurostar. So clearly, I recommend it. My ...

Paris

... surprised to find some of best service we had ever had (this actually was true through out our whole stay in France). We strolled to the Arc de Triumph and then the cold night finally drove us home to our hotel. The next day was a 30 min train ride to Versailles where we went into town before seeing the Palace for the Tuesday market in the town square. Unlike Paris where it seemed everyone spoke English the locals in Versailles spoke limited or no English so Peter had the ...
