After that, I spent a while on the island just standing on the beach staring at the sea hoping to see dolphins again - but no luck! It was a lovely place - beautiful buildings and gardens/parks. ... have been lovely to have someone playing, or music on a sound system. Nup. An aviary had the biggest gathering of peacocks I've ever seen, as well as pelicans, cockatoos and others. The noise was unbelievable. There was a show starting at 9.30, and about ten minutes beforehand, every bird seemed to start warming up its vocal chords. There was the usual revolting show of trained birds doing ridiculous things like riding a bike. The only funny one was the cockatoo playing the piano. ...
... houses for their outstanding selection of Chinese teas. One thing that became obvious quickly inside the real China is that English speaking people, outside major hotels, is hard to find so it is often a very amusing interaction as you negotiate prices in the side streets.
Overall we were extremely impressed at how advanced, clean and developed Xiamen is relative to both our expectations.

... night, this time we dined with Cheryl, her Dad Tom and her twins, William and Kate, lovely family from Melbourne. We had a great meal, lots of drinks and great company, we sat right at the front where everyone came into the dining room, so we all kept chatting to people we knew as they walked in and out, this was a great spot!!
After dinner, there was a production show so we all went to see it, but it had already started but what we saw was good.
