    ... the Silk Road trip last semester. However, things went downhill fast after the Dai village because we did not really do anything afterward. For the second half, we saw places, but most of the places did not have anything to do and they were not that special.

    ... busy bees sorting out lots of bits and pieces and things for our trip into Burma as there is extremely limited Internet access ( so our bog may be curtailed for a while, we shall see)! And in Bangkok we've got one day to arrange our Burma visa and all our cash, which needs to be in pristine condition US dollar bills, printed after 2006. Fussy buggers the Burmese!

    It is 1.30pm and we are at the beginning of our four hour bus journey from Kunming to Dali. The bus is hot and the space between the seats is small, but all in all its comfortable. We woke early in Shilin after a good night's sleep (thanks to eye mask and earplugs – my number one travelling companion).
