... suit said "hello" and smiled. Guilin is a very pretty city to visit and worth the effort to get here. The combination of lime stone rock hills and water is an amazing backdrop to a small but bustling city. Now we are all downstairs I the lobby, awaiting the cattle call to load into the bus for lunch. It has been a great stay, so far. Quick update. (It is now the following day, we have had a long day, tired but want to finish the blog ...

It was definitely a day of catching up with sleep, we slept in till 11 and then had lunch at the hostel which was really nice. We had decided to climb a mountain this weekend so we agreed we would need a bigger bag, therefore our afternoon consisted of going up and down on the subway looking for a bag and Leigh enjoying the fact we were in shops like 'go outdoors' (he loves go outdoors). She has asked me all semester if we could hang out and talk because she wants to practice her English, so ...

... us at the end of the tour. Seriously, this was unbelievable. And yes, you guessed it right - this new guide did not speak any English either. We swear we were chosen for one of those funniest shows today where they see how you react in a bad situation. And if we were, we should get a medal for our patience and tolerance. But no one approached us afterward to debrief us. Oh well.

So the French couple and us decided to explore on our own. ...

The Great Wall of China (pun intended)

A travel blog entry by karabear on Apr 03, 2011

I'm not sure if you picked up on it on my last blog because I just slightly hinted at it; but the last few weeks in China have not exactly been rainbows and butterflies. Week 5 (this is now week 7) seemed to mark the end of the honeymoon phase for our group. Although it was subtle, it was there. Instead of laughing off the challenges and bravely trying new things, people responded with frustration. Everyone was really stressed because they were taking an ...
