After meeting all of Emily's work colleagues on a night out at go karting (no helmet required but I wore one anyway with my mum in mind) we realised an australian guy Em works with and his Chinese girlfriend were planning a day out to the same place we were, Hangzhou. Much lauded by poets and artists, Hangzhou is called Paradise On Earth as well as the City of Love, because according to legend, 2 of the 4 great Chinese love stories took place here. It's a short 1 hour ride on the world's fastest intercity train line, south of Shanghai and a top attraction for national tourists.
