... pass the bus but slip on the scree and fall under the wheels of the bus. Fortunately I scramble out at about the speed of light.

We are all to distressed to get back on the bus, who knows how long it will take to get to Shangrila, if ever. So five of us call back to the town we have just left and organise another mini van to take us to Shangrila.

This driver is safe, mature and overweight. These are good qualities in a minibus driver

Shangri-La, Yunnan, China blummo... was actually quite beautiful as the scenery was reminiscent of the rocky mountains of Colorado while we were in the low valleys and of the high plains of Montana or Alaska as we climbed to the higher valleys.

Arriving in Shangri-La, we caught at Y7 (USD 1) taxi into old town and settled on a Y60 (USD 9) hotel with 24-hour hot water. The hotel was built mainly of plywood sheeting inside a timbered frame. It was functional, but the walls were paper-thin. A ...

Shangri-La, Yunnan, China radsolv... An hour of bliss, although I was very sore today. No more massages or emails though for three or four days as we are heading off into the wilderness of Yunnan. Could be scary. The Chinese are very friendly, always waving. Not very many foreigners here at all. They are super honest. If you ever give them too much money they will always make sure you get change and they refuse tips. Quite a few of us have ...
Bai Shu He, Yunnan, China red_gamer... outfits. When we left we said our goodbyes, but we will probably see them all in Beijing at the ened of the month, as by coincedence our flights all the leave at around the same time! We had earlier that morning taken a short (but tiring ) walk up the hill overlooking the town in order to check out the temple, complete with Tibetan prayer flags and prayer wheels. The views over the town were fantastic, especially because the weather had cleared ...
Shangri-La, Yunnan, China jon-daniella... Today's visitors have a number of options for exploring the mountain. All require you to pay a ¥60 ($7.50) entrance fee to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Scenic Area, about 30km (20 miles) north of town. Many tourists visit as part of an organized tour. To get out here on your own, it's best to hire a private car or taxi for ¥100 to ¥150 ($13-$19), or take a bus for Baoshan or Daju. The most popular visit is a round-trip cable-car ride for ¥180 ($22) from ...
Zhongdian, China wephenn... to attract as many visitors and tourists as possible in the short tourist season there. Qiaotou, China sneekybeeky... take all of our baggage with us, as our plan was to move north to Lugu Lake after the gorge. The sun was slowly rising above the mountains, spraying rays of light from its peaks. We gradually climbed the hillside passing local farmers and scattered wooden buildings every 30 minutes or so. Rosie didn't appear to be totally sure which direction to go, after about an hour we had reached one of the first guest houses, hopefully this was her fathers place. It wasn't, Rosie asked for ...
