Somehow, time is going by ridiculously quickly and we've come to the end of our Thai journey... (for now). But this only means we have now made it into Laos!

Following on from where Jack left us beginning our mammoth bus journey to Laos, after some 23 hours being jam packed with travellers, locals and monks, made only slightly more …

Elephant riding & bathing

A travel blog entry by batgirl

Have always wanted to do elephant riding. Was thinking of doing it in Chiang Mai (TH) but I think it would be cheaper to do it in Laos. So hard to choose which tour operator to book. Also, there's the ethical issue i.e. elephants are apparently tortured when young to train them (by mahouts). They undergo tough childhood i.e. hooks, sharp objects to …

Woke up yesterday and had breakfast before booking the hot air balloon ride for me, luc and andy, our vang vieng friend. Me and luc then rented a moped and i drove us to the blue lagoon! Anyone who has been to Laos will appreciate how stressful this was, i thought i was gonna crash! soooo many pot holes and flooded roads where lucy had to get off …

Last night we had dinner before taking a walk through the night market in town and my lord what a night market it was! Stall after stall of the 'same, same but different' textiles, clothes n gifts. It literlly went on for miles but was great and v cheap. we bought some new clothes and gifts to send back home and headed back to the hostel.

    Good + comfy

Everything was fine, except for one thing: the dorm has poor ventilation. So everything tends to my musty smelling and dark and dingy. Good luck in rainy weather! Other than that, the staff are OK. and one more thing, you have to have your own clothesline. :)

Rooms were clean and quiet for the price. Toilets were disgusting and I did not see anyone clean them the whole time we were there. The smell was that bad we could smell it from the room. Shame... let this wee place down
