Bit of a late start as we had decided to have an easy day. Drove to North Allerton which is not far from Thirsk. Didn't look much on the map, but as usual towns are all bigger than expected. Had a lovely morning tea at Betty's Tearooms in the centre of town, then we made our back to Thirsk to visit the James Herriot museum, home and surgery of the vet who wrote the now ...

... a late breakfast to eat all day we enjoyed it, my first roast for five weeks, delicious! Monday September 7th Set off for Castle Howard, theoretically only 30 minutes away. However we have discovered that distance here is not measured by miles but by time. Our car dash tells us that our average speed is 35 miles per hour, or 50 kms ph. Now to Seaham to see big Tommy. Apparently he was a travelling exhibition but the people of Seaham liked him so much that they raised the 70,000 pounds to buy him and keep him here permanently. Worth every penny.

Finally a pub on the way home - had a couple of Tetley's, not the the tea variety. Did enjoy them and the company - Mary, Marie and Bill.

Tomorrow we head for Ayr on the Scottish coast ...

By the end of 6 hours walking around , we were all ready to go home and get our feet up and have a nice cup of tea.

Barbara, Paul and I made dinner together and settled in for a quiet night of the ...

Sandy and I went on the tour of the Turkish Baths from 9am to 10am. Very interesting. We went into Betty's Tea Rooms for a cup of tea and a Fat Rascal. We went back to the hotel to check out and walked over to Harrogate Station and caught an earlier train to Leeds where we picked up an earlier train back to Liverpool. A great couple of days in ...
