After climbing for 6km out of the crater in which Spa sits, it was time to make our way towards Gouvy.

Our first experience of Belgium had been a bit of a shock to the system. However, our journey to Gouvy was one of the most beautiful rides anyone could wish to cycle. In the anticipation of hills, we gave ourselves a shorter day- and we were very grateful for it.

It's amazing what a difference a day makes. We really enjoyed cruising through the final 70km of Holland- and then we met Belgium. Let's just say it was an eventful afternoon. It involved climbing ruddy great hills, walking through a mountain bike trail- ...

I also still had my large backpack so navigating through a small restaurant would've been difficult. We ended up at Ellis Burger where I had a gourmet beef burger with duck liver and onion jam. It was delicious.

... several times, later we decided to keep walking. Google maps said the road went to Mamedy but all my other maps presented it as a trail. The concrete soon ended and it became a slightly muddy downhill path through the forest. Definitely a 4wd only path. When Malmedy came into view out ride arrived & we pilled into the Range Rover for the short trip to drop me off four hours after the Grand Prix ended. Patrick, Juan and Mark arrived back an hour later after a €40 taxi ...
