Tom and I were exhausted from our coach 'experience' so we decided to take it easy in Laos. I had been told it was a relaxing, slow paced country and they weren't wrong. We wondered around Luang Prabang, Laos' most famous tourist destination and found very few cars, bikes and even tourists. Luang Prabang is a UNESCO world heritage site, so the entire town is protected and development in banned for most. Two storeys is the height restriction on all buildings and no permanent ...
This morning was a bit of a clear up but did see/hear a few interesting things whilst running around including a bus reversing sound - 'Whistle while you work...' Also ran around getting a painting that I may keep depending on other factors. Bloke wasn't up for bartering at all so the full price of $12 it was. Still pretty good I think as long as it makes it home. On the way to the airport Paula overheard Rachel (GBR) saying she was going to the airport so we jumped in together. Rachel lives ...

Sara:
Firstly we got here! The 24 hour bus journey ended at 30hours in the middle of nowhere because a motorcyclist went into our bus round one of the corners! In the middle of nowhere, the bus had to stop, luckily the cyclist was okay, but his bike was a total right off! Realising that it would take a long time for the police to get to us, and therefore we would have to wait a long time to get back on the road, we decided to hitch. Tom and myself, plus an American guy who was also on the ...
We were up for breakfast this morning at 8am - feeling OK after last nights session. From the brekky place (called The Moon 2), we also picked up a couple of baguettes for the journey. The bus didn't set off until 10.30, so we knew that time was going to be later when we got to Luang Prabang. The journey itself is quite testing. It takes you over the mountains (by road of course, not in the air), but the roads are very, very windy. There seems to be a bend every 5 yards. This is not the best ...

By the end, we were exhausted and ready for a shower but had to wait for the truck to pick us up for nearly forty five minutes.

We arrived back in Luang Prabang at around five p.m., where Claire promptly got on an overnight bus to Vietnam, and I checked into the same hotel that the Australian guys from the bus had told me they were staying. I wasn't ...

After swimming in the ice cold water, we had lunch, jumped into our kayaks and paddled back to Luang Prabang. This wasn’t quite as gentle as it sounds, as on the journey back we had to ...

Workers pour in every morning wearing pink, purple, yellow, and orange shirts. I'm not real sure what they're building, but everyday at 5 they all pile into the back of a big utility truck with a huge flatbed with three fold up sides. They all squeeze in there. I'll bet there's 50 of them. The last ones seem to just jump and get stuck in the mass of people all crammed it here. They all laugh ...

This action caused much hilarity among nearby guests who pointed out that the pink stuff was a sweet desert, a bit like Birds Eye trifle. Later on Nunu, who was hooked on the stuff, filled a plastic bag full of it and attempted to conceal it within her dungarees - even though this showed plainly as an unwieldy lump. She was subsequently caught by no less than the bride ...
