    The water bed!

This is a cool place, cheap, central & a great view. We were brave and took our chances to find a room when we arrived at 9.30pm and found this place (although it is listed in lonely planet!) It's situated on the riverside at the end of a dark alleyway which is patrolled by a pack of devil dogs. We opted for the best so we had a raft room with river view and hot water shower, woooo!! It only cost 305baht per night so thats about 6 quid (just noticed Thai keyboards don't have the pound sign!) The room had a water level balcony which we didn't use as we heard a huge splash right outside the window.....monitor lizards....eeek. We were treated to the sounds of the river ALL night too, it was romantic to start but that quickly became tedious!

    Wonderful little guesthouse

Fabulous guesthouse with floating rooms right on the river kwai. The rooms are clean, there is a choice of hot water or cold (price dependant) and the hosts are lovely and helpful. The food is exceptionally good, especially the burmese curry! I wouldn't hesitate to come here again as everything about this place was just what we needed.

Exploring Kanchanaburi - very very slowly

I decided to stay four full days in Kanchanaburi - which should give me plenty of time to explore this area, and also to relax a bit.

The latter I did on my first day. Sleeping a bit longer (not as long as I would do back home), having a light breakfast, and then get ready to explore the town. I finally made it out after 2pm. Did I mention …

It was time, after planning my trip to SEA over the last two month it was finally time to enter the plane that will bring me from Europe to SEA - Thailand to be precise. I won"t bother to talk about the flight - as long it arrives in one piece, in time and with my luggage I am happy. And all three boxes were ticked.

    So I was in Bangkok - …

Just what the doctor ordered...relaxation! Our little "raft house" sits on the River Kwai and on the little deck we can see all of the action on the river. Not much really. There are "long boats" that motor past and in the evening the famous Kareoke Boats (which are big party boats with lights and lots of music) float past our room. Haven't heard a …

Hellfire Pass was always going to be part two of our Death Railway eduction. The LP advises that following a train to Nam Tok you can walk the disused railway to the cutting, you can't. After a chilled out Wednesday (I started to read Stephen King's 'It' after twenty years of meaning to, and Emma... i'm not sure what Emma did) we awoke at 05:00, …
