... and 15 minutes before final boarding he calls his mum and gets the address -- success!
The boys, by the way, did a marvelous job flying, but I attribute that entirely to seatback entertainment and not anything they or we did in particular. Landing at Heathrow, the American portion of our family sails through customs while the EU/UK line drags -- this never happens, so I gloat. Boys proclaim they are too ...
... English people missing a road sign somewhere and never seeing another one. They ended up in the Atlantic Ocean before realizing they were going to wrong way!!!"
After driving 297 miles in the English countryside and getting mixed up in the little towns, we had a good laugh at the end of it all. I'm glad I finally discovered the real reason the New World was discovered.

London, England, United Kingdom sromanuck... to gain perspectives beyond textbooks and newspaper headlines. It's been really exciting! :) ** Biking into the City for the first time, and passing "There's Big Ben, Kids" just as the clock struck 13:00. It was, at that point, my longest bike ride, and my first time heading into London by the city streets instead of the Tube. When Big Ben struck as I rounded the ...
London, England, United Kingdom smiling_nomad... getting ready for our tour tomorrow morning, we aren't sure when we can send another email, hopefully somewhere along the tour.
Oh, it got to -2 degrees today - it is bloody cold you can't stay outside for long, lots of inside stops are a must.
Anyway, keep messaging us, oh almost forgot, we have made the decision to live here. This is an amazing place, with all of its history, statues and old buildings, fashion and food, we are in heaven!
... Unhappy Cow: Do you always travel without knowing where you are staying? Me: No ma'am. My friend is picking us up so I didn't ask for the address. UC: Would you go somewhere in the US without knowing the address? Me: No. (Although, sidenote, that's a complete lie. I can't tell you any of my friends' American addresses, but I figure they know them and that's really the important thing. I just didn't think it was a good idea to ...
London, England, United Kingdom cnel... incase anyone was worried haha. Back to London. Our time in London was kind of short but none of us were really bothered by this because everything in London is ridiculously expensive! If you were to guess an absurd price that you think something might cost.... then double it... you might be close to the actual price you pay for things here. The hostel we stayed in was fantastic. It was called Palmers Lodge and was basically a restored victorian style ...
London, England, United Kingdom essonsea... at Bar Rouge then we wandered through the market place & across to Somerset House to see the ice skating rink. Back on the bus, we finally got off at the Tower of London then caught the river boat back to Westminster & walked back to the hotel.
London, United Kingdom traveltragic... can see things with fresh eyes once one is back home. But before I share about that, I will say how ridiculous Cleveland's airport security is once you arrive and I am guessing in many other airports for international flights as well. You would think that you would just go through US immigration control, perhaps have your carry-ons inspected, answer a few questions and that would be that. Oh no Not only did they scan every carry ...
London, United Kingdom alexk1018... my stay, Katie and I did quite a bit of very intense sightseeing and tried to do it all, so at least that meant that I could take it a bit easier this year and finish up the things that we didn't get to last year while just getting a sense of the city. One of my favourite experiences of that sort was waiting in Piccadilly Circus at the statue of Eros for friends from home with whom I was going to see a show. It's said that in London, you can wait at the ...
