Pierogi and a very crowded minibus
She says: Krakow was fantastic - a great place to start the trip. We began our first day (after waking up at 12:30 p.m. - oops! jet lag anyone?) with a tour of the castle and cathedral on Wawel Hill. After shuffling through the cathedral in order to avoid the hordes of Polish schoolchildren, we admired the view from the top of the hill across the …

One pit stop for Don to get a cake and back by 2245. The internet is a non-starter so did the diary and downloaded the rest of the pix, the rest, including packing and storing collected items, can wait for tomorrow.

A trip back two generations
... Rocher as I can imagine.
After a good night we woke up very early, after not much sleep, to take the coach out to Auschwitz. You can complain all you want about no sleep and not feeling well but not when you're about to go to this site.
It really is an eye opener, and not many words can explain what we saw. I think what what I learnt the most from the day is that when people think ...

We waited at the airport for our flight, and Dan got a maracino from McCafe and I got a Smarties McFlurry to make up for the time in Rome where I missed out on having the Smarties gelati :P We lined up at our gate in the priority line at the very front, ...

Finally, our last stop before heading off to Zakopane was the Wielicka salt mine. This sounds like a bit of an odd tourist attraction, but everyone we know who went here seemed to rave about it, so we had to check it out for ourselves. It certainly lived up to ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Trecius Guesthouse Krakow
Loved it!
I agree with the other reviews for Trecius. It is central, very clean and just a bit different from staying in a standard hotel (and much cheaper!). It's really easy to get to everything that you might want to see and there are loads of restaurants and bars close by.
We stayed in Room 2 which was large and the beds were comfortable. The only problem (and it wasn't too much of a problem) was the noise during the night as this room is on the corner of a fairly major street - drunken teenagers shouted all through the night on the second night we stayed.
If you arrive by car, there is secure parking not too far away.
I would definitely recommend Trecius.
Superb Guesthouse in central Krakow ---
If you are looking for a small reasonably priced accommodation in central Krakow look no further than the Trecius.
It is non smoking, full of character, spotlessly clean and they serve an absolutely yummy breakfast. It is a short 10 min walk from the station via the park and about a 3 min walk from the town square. They don't have a 24 hour reception but their welcoming and helpful staff will be there to meet your arrival. I give it 10 out 10
Trecius Deserves the Raves
Spent four nights in two different rooms due to our late booking. The first 3 nights were in a large room just off the reception and the last night was in a smaller adjacent room. We arrived very early on the night train from Budapest but the staff hustled and had our room ready by 9:30 . We couldn't have been more pleased with the Trecius and the staff. Both rooms were extremely clean and airy and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very helpful in getting us oriented and cheerfully took care of a couple special requests I had during our stay. The central location (1 block from the main square) is ideal for exploring the old town and surrounding neighborhoods as well as just enjoying the ambiance of the place. The pastry store next door was a great test of self control which I didn't pass. Next time we get back to this part of the world we'll book early and definitely stay at the Trecius. It's that good.
Perfect place to stay
I stayed at the Pensjon Trecius in the summer of 2004. Our room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The bathroom was large and had everything we needed. The location can't be beat. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting the owners (they were on vacation themselves), but the young women on staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Centralized and cozy with a great staff!
The hotel is located in a very good place within walking distance to all the major tourist attractions, shopping, restaurants, entertainment as well as little convenience stores. There is no real need to use the public transportation to get around. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful in providing our large group with restaurant and touring advice as well as any accommodation needs we needed. All the rooms are different and are clean and welcoming. This hotel I would especially recommend to anyone who wants to have a romantic getaway. Three of their rooms are perfect for that! I will definitely book this place the next time I'm in town.
Best place to stay in Cracow!!!
An extraordinarily well run small and cozy hotel located less than a five minutes walk from the heart of Cracow. Staying there you don't need to use any public transportation at all, everything is located within walking distance. All the hotel's staff is very friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English. Rooms are tidy, comfortable and very nicely decorated (each room is individual). Prices are very reasonable. It was my third visit in this hotel and I'm certainly coming back next year. No better place to stay in Cracow!!!
A Great Place to Stay
The staff was very helpful and very courteous, they all spoke excellent English. The rooms were modern and very nice. It was a great value, especially in such a convienent location. It is less than a minute walk to the main market square, with all the major tourist sites within walking distance. It would be hard to imagine a better place to stay in a city the size of Krakow.
Great location and personnel!
The owner and his staff, who all speak excellent english, were very gracious and catered to any and all needs that our large group had, including breakfast in bed for a special occasion and great recommendations for area restaurants and attractions.
Great location, great price
Hotel Trecius was recommended by a friend and proved well worth it. The hotel is a one minute walk from the Market square and ample sight-seeing/ dining/ partying locations. The staff was quite friendly (even when we woke them up at 6 in the morning because someone forgot their keys) and very helpful. If I ever return to Krakow, this will be th first place I try to stay.
A Five star experience for a Bargain Price
Pensjonat Trecius is located centrally in the old town in Krakow, only a few seconds walk away from the historic Market Square.
The Trecius has only six rooms, located on the first floor of a renovated old building.
My room (Sadly, not room one, which has the Devil's paw print in the brickwork of its wall) had two (VERY comfortable) double beds with crisp & clean bed-linen, a toliet & shower with underfloor heating, and was more than ample in size.
The price of the hotel does not include breakfast, although they do provide one if booked in advance, for a small extra charge.
As for the room prices, what a bargain! My room worked out at only a little more than £20 per night. Considering the location and the standard of the Trecius was really too good to be true.
There are separate charges for single or double occupancy (A welcome rarity for the single traveller, these days), plus discounts for stays of over three nights.
Last, but certainly not least, a special mention for the staff of the Trecius. A more friendly and helpful group of people you could not wish to meet - the young ladies from reception were wonderful!
Basically I cannot think of enough good things to says about the Trecuis - they really helped make my first visit to Krakow a happy one. If and when I return, there will only be one place thatI'll want to book!
