Room was nice and big and of an interesting style (as was the rest of the building). As per other reviews there was not a lot of furniture to put stuff, but we did have a spare bed, which came in helpful to dump stuff.

Location is very good on the tourist strip, opposite some good bars, 15-20 minute walk to night market, 7-11, ATM etc all near. Also if you prefer modern stuff a small shopping centre with KFC and other chain restaurants was about 5 mins away.

Temple tour by river for 200 baht was good. Bus to Kanchanaburi was 400 baht which is 50 more than the guesthouse opposite. Minibus was actually quite nice for the journey to Kanchanaburi.

Cheap bike hire (40 Baht) just across the street, and sightseeing is good.

We emailed them to reconfirm arrival etc but no reply. booking conf said they would email to get payment details, which is weird practice, but they never did email for details. This is fine, but why say that they are going to? Due to this we were a bit worried that our reservation would not be on the system when we arrived, but it was fine.

Check in was very relaxed, pleasant, but not friendly. We were shown to room, but no help was offered with bags.

Room was hot at night, but had air con, however room got hot very quickly after turning aircon off. I think maybe due to the wooden walls/flloor.

Window opened up over a staff area, which was very noisy from 7am with staff chatting.

Bathroom is a wetroom, not much loo roll provided, so we had to ask numerous times for more.

        No hand towels provided.

        Bedding was quite dirty.

300 Baht deposit which is a bit odd, but not end of the world.

Pool was disgusting, with visibility of about 30 cm. We did not enter.

This was probably the worst place we stayed on our holiday, but was also marginally the cheapest. You need to bear in mind that this is not a hotel or boutique guesthouse, but a glorified backpackers with some nicer rooms. Service was not great, room was interesting, but not very comfortable (big bed though), pool was rank. Not a bad place, but I would try and stay somewhere else if I came to Ayutthaya again.

Welcoming and friendly staff, great ambience and very good food. Fan rooms are quaint but clean and very spacious. Bathrooms are quite worn but functional. Rooms can be somewhat noisy from the music in the bar.

        Songkron, a darker side

As I alluded to in my last entry, there is an unfortunate side to the celebrations. I don't know if I have a special knack for encountering near death experiences in developing countries, or if the propensity for them is really that high. Either way, I was witness to three life-altering injuries in the early evening of my third day in Ayuthaya. ...

From the train station we took a small boat across the river (Ayutthaya is on an island in a river) and after a short walk we arrived at the guest house. The lad who showed us the room told us to shower before we came back down to check in - so you can only imagine the state we were in. Stinky! We decided to take a quick walk out to the nearest ...

        An afternoon in Ayutthaya

This morning we jumped on a train to Ayutthaya, which was once the capital (and the biggest city in the world in 1700). Today it is home to the ruins of this time, which are pretty spectacular, so much so they are an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The train took a couple of hours, and leaving our **** at the station, we decided to go against the gr...
