Nothing in Lamphang

Here again was another of off the beaten tourst track towns alot like the others only heavily armed with taxi trucks and tuk tuks to take you here there and anywhere. We were aiming to go to the Elephant Conservation Centre but it was located 20 miles outside town. We again same old story got fed up with this place and said we'd see the elephants in Chiang Mai so ofted on out of here. The one thing we did enjoy was strangely - bowling! Yes a random place had a bowling alley. We played the fir...

... the rescued elephants at BLES are protected and respected, just being elephants. Be sure to read my Sukhothai blog from last year about BLES and help Katherine in her efforts to establish elephant clinics/hospitals to meet the needs of the many elephants who cannot travel to Lampang when in need of care.

And if you are near Lampang, (one hour from Chiang Mai) you will not regret a visit to TECC! David and I had a wonderful and beautiful day there!

So in a cool way we unchain her and again she is hobbled so we unhobble her and she drags the chain out of the jungle and folds it up (it is really cool to watch her do it...I got some video) and we load her up with it....and I shout "Mai Long!!!" and she lays down and we try to beat the mud off her....no problem...she ...

She was about 4 or 5 tonnes....I not quite the same....my mahout was a short guy and about 1/3 my weight...he started babbling at the big gal and she did exactly what he wanted her to do....not sure if these ...

... Bar & Restaurant. We weren't let down and the place had a great atmosphere with live music (Thais singing English classics, quite surreal) and a great view of the river in the moonlight. The next day we got up early and set off for a nearby village called Ko Kha to visit a Lanna temple called Wat Phra Lamphun Luang. The wat was quite beautiful and ...

My Elephant and Me (by Erin)

Travis found this place on someone else's travellogue and thought it would be cool. We walked across the highway from where the bus dropped us off at sometime after 8:30 (so we were, naturally, running late) and entered the Thai Elephant Conservation Center. The actual base was more than 2 km from the highway, though, and we were afraid we'd have to hump our gear all the way in, but one of the center's trucks arrived and we climbed on. At first we were ...

Mahout Suit (by Travis)

We had successfully taken a public bus crammed with people. We had arrived at the Elephant Conservation Center off the highway between Chiang Mai and Lampang. We had successfully checked in (they hadn't said "Who are you?"). Now, we were going to go meet our elephants. That is, as soon as I figured out how to put on my pants. They were hopelessly wide, had drawstrings in the front (or was that back?), and seemed to require some kind of ...

Dr. Strangelove is a good movie

... heard from him. I'd like to think he's happy. If Zac can be happy, I can be happy. Zac and I have the same personality. More specifically, we have the same sense of humor. The travesty of meeting yourself face to face is that you have to compete with the other you to be more you than they are. It is exausting. It is also strangely unfullfilling. The analogy is to talk to a mirror. I'm not going to use it because it's cliche, and people who ...
