Shangri-La, Yunnan, China blummo... just felt worse. I also thought maybe I was just being a baby about the chicken...but soon I was feeling really sick. A couple of hours later I ended up getting pretty sick. Poor Jake didn't get much sleep because of me and I'm pretty sure the whole hostel could hear me getting sick through the thin walls. (we also found out that our neighbor, Lily, was ******* a lot!). About half-way through the night I started feeling better and we ...

The sweet, sweet tunes are my number one survival method on long cramped bus journeys, and the thought of the rest of the trip without them is a real downer... Arriving in Zhongdian, we did a prolonged (and in my opinion, unnecassary) tour of almost identical hostels, before Deniz decided that one of them was better than identical (it wasn't). Bumped into Raul, the hardy Catalan from the ...

So how do we know you haven't secretly found Shangri-La and are just covering your tracks with a guidebook? Ah, but I have found it! Or let's call that traces of Shangri-La. You can find, in the Himalayas, the key elements of Shangri-La: majestic snowcaps, majestic monasteries, High Lamas and deep spirituality. It's just that you won't find all these elements in the one place. The High Lamas ...

The whole place smelled of incense and was decorated with colorful paintings that we spent a long time looking at. It was an interesting and memorable look inside Tibetan Buddhism, one of the highlights of our time in China. After visiting Shangri-la, we caught a night bus back to Kunming before catching a flight to Guilin in the Guanxi province for a sejour in Yangshuo.

Some even walking with me and providing support so I wouldn't slip on the wet wooden stairs. I didn't need any help but was touched by their concern. When I got back to the Gondola station my concern was for Carol. She was pretty much recovered. Her lips were still a little blue so I asked her to OD on the oxygen and the blueness quickly ...
Zhongdian, China wephenn... feeling to be walking along this route as you were right slap bang in the middle of nature with dramatic scenery everwhere you looked. i was speachless. The rest of the walk up to seans guest house was a gentle climb through streams, over grass covered hills, through villages etc untill we got to seans for some well earned lunch.. :) From there we caught the mini bus back to Qiaotou.. Once we got to Qiaotou we had to cath the bus back to Lijiang so we hopped on a bus and set ...

We spent the day catching up on our travel diaries and drinking way too much tea to keep warm. That evening we discussed our options - try to make it to Deqin, and cut down our time for Laos, or head back to Kunming and start making our way down towards Laos. The latter option was sounding the most realistic as we closed our eyes to get some sleep.
