... the sand had been shipped in from mainland Europe as all of the other beaches are black volcanic sand beaches and they wanted something a little different. I was particularly enamoured with a range of mountains covered in green moss which looked like giant green velvet blankets heaped together. ... and well worth a visit. The various hot springs exude minerals too, so the ground around here is covered with different mineral deposits which look like glistening coloured fish scales. By this time it was drizzling quite hard, so it was time for lunch in the nearby cafe and a browse through the shop afterwards, both of which were very tempting. ... one above the other. You could walk around the base and climb up some rocks at the side. The spray made you rather wet though! Then walk up the side of the rocky cliff for a view over the top of the waterfall. Was really nice - and again nice and quiet! In the distance, a row of black volcanos, and just behind them, the second largest glacier in Iceland. It looked really cool - a huge mound of ice! It was really getting cold again.
