Six weeks to go

A travel blog entry by the-malones

... weather is like and if the sea was calm or rough. Last night here was a gale and I thought of those at sea. Even with the best stabilisers you get some sway. It all reminded me to get some Avomine! I don't get sea sick but also prevention is better than cure. A great deal of the fun of holidays is this time of anticipation. Looked up our booked exclusions on line and Komodo island is missing so I will have to give them a ring tomorrow. I have fired off an email as well. One of ...

Getting Monty ready

A travel blog entry by gerryanddavid

What a saga! Filled Monty with water, put clothes and food in the lockers and got the heating working. Just about to move off the drive when a car pulls up opposite the driveway - can't get Monty off if I haven't got the width of the road. He's a big lad and its a small roadway. So went to neighbour and asked if he could get the new car moved - he ...

I had a delicious lunch at a fabulous vegetarian restaurant with Sharon; and an afternoon with Tracey and Yvonne, walking the seafront, eating and seeking out good, local brews.

I would like to spend a longer time in Brighton and maybe rent a car to see some of the surrounding historic spots. I’ve already got a list going for next time I come to ...

And so home!

It was xxxxxx cold this morning.
The temp dropped dramatically overnight.
I will be seeing Chris on wed to get the heating sorted. I must have missed some switch or something. It must be down to me not being able to use the control panel - there are so many symbols that it is mindblowing.
Breakfast and a slow journey home.
Some beautiful pictures of the morning frost.
And Monty is now back at the storage, ready for next weekend and the New Forest.

I did a bit of sightseeing and caught up with a few people
while I was in the Eastbourne and Hastings area. I visited the Towner Art
Gallery in Eastbourne and went to Birling Gap. I also got to see Rye and
Dungeness. I was disappointed with Dungeness – I’ve wanted to see it for years,
but found it ...

    Hit and Miss

    from Liz117

We chose to stay here a couple of weeks ago on the basis of the reviews posted here. Overall, we were reasonably pleased with the feel of the place. But be warned, the rooms are very small - there wasnt enough clearance to get from one side of room to the other without climbing over the bed! The breakfast was ok but nothing special - perhaps they had an off weekend!!

Whilst the place was very friendly it was a little rough around the edges. But then perhaps that sums up your typical English seaside resort!

    Welcoming

    from HBelle

Very friendly hotel - staff were excellent & went out of their way to help. Breakfast was superb, room was smaller than expected though & not particularly swanky but that wouldn't put me off staying again.

    A lovely spot

    from anonymous

This small boutique hotel is very warm and homey, with welcoming and helpful staff. Our room was quiet and beautifully decorated. The organic breakfast is one of the best I've ever had! I'd definitely come back!

    Perfect weekend!

    from anonymous

Came down for Valentines weekend and it couldn't have been better. The staff were friendly, the rooms were gorgeous and the breakfast was spot on. I can only assume the person who complained about the prices (Jan 6 review) has never stayed in a hotel before!! If you want budget then go to a cheap bed and breakfast. If you want quality then go to The Oriental.

    Thanks for a fab weeekend.

    Disappointed

    from Siharris28

Was disappointed with this place after seeing the website and some of the reviews above.

The rate was increased as we stayed over New Year, so it was £95 for the night and I have to say I was surprised at how small the room was (this was the second most expensive room). It seemed like a fairly small hall of residence room, although nicely decorated. Mind you, I was expecting loads of candles and original features and decoration after looking at the website. Actually got one aromatherapy lamp and a dying rose.

On the plus side the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.

Overall though, I really don't think it was worth it for the price.

    Brilliant full english!

ive stayed twice and this place is brilliant! the best breakfast EVER!

and the newly decorated rooms have the best showers! and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

    The only place to stay

    from anonymous

This hotel has to be one of the best places I've ever stayed at. All of the rooms were gorgeous, (and I should know as we booked 7 of their 9 rooms), the breakfast would cure a terminal hangover and the atmosphere almost makes you believe you've booked a private hotel with staff at your beck and call. We asked for a late bar and I can't recall the last time I crawled to bed with the bar still open. Best of all the "staff". My younger sister and cousin were definitely taken with the lovely Tim and we were never left wanting for anything. If you read this, stay and write your own review! PS. this is the first time I've ever been inclined to write a review!

Overpriced and not as good as the website looked

    from anonymous

Having seen the website for the Oriental Hotel, I had great expectations and was pretty disappointed with the actual hotel. It was friendly and clean enough but our room was tiny and a little bit shabby. It was vastly overpriced for size of room and facilities within (sink by bed instead of in bathroom, hmmm). Nice bar/breakfast room and breakfast was good, but not much choice. Wouldn't go back again.

    Don't believe the hype.

    from anonymous

Articles raved about this place but it wasn't quite as good as it was made out to be. Nothing that wrong but 'themed' room was a bit like staying in a relatives back room. Clean, but nothing above average service.

Under new management - funky hotel with friendly staff!

    from anonymous

Since the last review, the Oriental is under new management. Staff are extremely friendly and give the hotel a very warm and relaxed atmosphere. It's been refurbished to high standard in a young, funky and original style. Excellent location near the seafront, shops and piers. Highly recommended and good value.
