... people out of the way, and I manage to slide through the door on the left as it was closing. I guess when this was happening the guy was yelling down the stairs "It's the wrong train! Not this train!!!". So I'm yelling at Nicola to get in the train, as I see her standing outside facing the closed doors with her hand straight out stuck between the door. Everyone inside starts trying to get the door open as she's yelling to me to get off the ...
... here at Wetherspoons until the gate gets called at 9:00.... a problem of travelling on your own has already occured. Booking food to a table and someone else booking food to that table a minute after you because you both believed the table was free...oops
I need to pinch myself, a spontaneous decision to pack up my life and move abroad is reality now. See you on the other side.
... the end then back down the other side. Loads of fun people watching. Then it was a stroll through town to see the party pad of George IV, the Brighton Pavilion, where he shed the shackles of royalty and let his hair down. It is quite a gaudy building, very suited for its use. The grounds were alive with couples strolling, musicians strumming, folks having their lunch on the lawn and people dressed to the nines for some kind of function. ...
... fine, lots of nerves as the whole family and I went to Arlanda. After a quick coffee I went through the gates and sat on the plane for aproximately 2½ hours. It was quite a bumpy ride around London, but we managed!
As we landed in Heathrow it was raining (welcome to England!). It all went very smooth though after we landed, I was really confused since Heathrow turns out to be a bloody labyrinth but they have very good staff that tells you were to go. So as ...
... Water was freezing even though its been over thirty degrees for a week. We checked out the famous pier and had fish and chips with vinegar on the beach. Very relaxing end of the day. The extended day light does the brain in a little bit. See a photo of me at the pier at 9:30pm last night after dinner, sun still ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Oriental Brighton
Hit and Miss
We chose to stay here a couple of weeks ago on the basis of the reviews posted here. Overall, we were reasonably pleased with the feel of the place. But be warned, the rooms are very small - there wasnt enough clearance to get from one side of room to the other without climbing over the bed! The breakfast was ok but nothing special - perhaps they had an off weekend!!
Whilst the place was very friendly it was a little rough around the edges. But then perhaps that sums up your typical English seaside resort!
Very friendly hotel - staff were excellent & went out of their way to help. Breakfast was superb, room was smaller than expected though & not particularly swanky but that wouldn't put me off staying again.
A lovely spot
This small boutique hotel is very warm and homey, with welcoming and helpful staff. Our room was quiet and beautifully decorated. The organic breakfast is one of the best I've ever had! I'd definitely come back!
Came down for Valentines weekend and it couldn't have been better. The staff were friendly, the rooms were gorgeous and the breakfast was spot on. I can only assume the person who complained about the prices (Jan 6 review) has never stayed in a hotel before!! If you want budget then go to a cheap bed and breakfast. If you want quality then go to The Oriental.
Thanks for a fab weeekend.
Was disappointed with this place after seeing the website and some of the reviews above.
The rate was increased as we stayed over New Year, so it was £95 for the night and I have to say I was surprised at how small the room was (this was the second most expensive room). It seemed like a fairly small hall of residence room, although nicely decorated. Mind you, I was expecting loads of candles and original features and decoration after looking at the website. Actually got one aromatherapy lamp and a dying rose.
On the plus side the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.
Overall though, I really don't think it was worth it for the price.
Brilliant full english!
ive stayed twice and this place is brilliant! the best breakfast EVER!
and the newly decorated rooms have the best showers! and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
The only place to stay
This hotel has to be one of the best places I've ever stayed at. All of the rooms were gorgeous, (and I should know as we booked 7 of their 9 rooms), the breakfast would cure a terminal hangover and the atmosphere almost makes you believe you've booked a private hotel with staff at your beck and call. We asked for a late bar and I can't recall the last time I crawled to bed with the bar still open. Best of all the "staff". My younger sister and cousin were definitely taken with the lovely Tim and we were never left wanting for anything. If you read this, stay and write your own review! PS. this is the first time I've ever been inclined to write a review!
Overpriced and not as good as the website looked
Having seen the website for the Oriental Hotel, I had great expectations and was pretty disappointed with the actual hotel. It was friendly and clean enough but our room was tiny and a little bit shabby. It was vastly overpriced for size of room and facilities within (sink by bed instead of in bathroom, hmmm). Nice bar/breakfast room and breakfast was good, but not much choice. Wouldn't go back again.
Don't believe the hype.
Articles raved about this place but it wasn't quite as good as it was made out to be. Nothing that wrong but 'themed' room was a bit like staying in a relatives back room. Clean, but nothing above average service.
Under new management - funky hotel with friendly staff!
Since the last review, the Oriental is under new management. Staff are extremely friendly and give the hotel a very warm and relaxed atmosphere. It's been refurbished to high standard in a young, funky and original style. Excellent location near the seafront, shops and piers. Highly recommended and good value.
