... defensive ring of over 3 kms of city walls that surround what was the medieval city. These walls were started by the Romans around 70 A.D. and over the centuries added to until 1070 when the invading Normans built a Castle which completed the full circuit of the city to what it is today. These walls helped to fortify the city and Castle during sieges in the 13th and 17th centuries, and are an easy and enjoyable way to see the city from on high.

With our stay in Crail in Scotland we were able to get a bus into St Andrew's. Known for its famous golf course and university, it also has the ruins of one of the biggest medieval cathedrals in Europe. St Andrew's was beautiful and quite historic. ... gone, replaced by gift shops and cafes. I've seen photos of this bridge and read about it, and it was really lovely to actually see it.

We spent a little time driving around Aqueduct in Telford, looking for the aqueduct, but it was filled in years ago for the new railway in the 1850's.

We finished with a pint of Fosters and the roast of the day at the Pied Bull, built in 1155, the oldest licenced house in Chester.
