... to see the third light. North Carolina Ferry System operates the ferries and there is no charge to ride from Hatteras Point to Ocracoke. This is North Carolinas oldest operating light, it stands 75 feet tall, and was built in 1823. It had a 4th order Fresnel lens, and is a harbor light.
We start heading west on Wednesday, going to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC. See you there.

... so we head into the surf for some cooling fun! It is 82 today so the water feels good! Still some good sized waves that knock us around! Lots of fun!

We will have to deal with that issue in the morning.
Another sad note is that our traveling companions for the last two weeks, would be leaving us in the morning. I'm sad to see them go but look forward to reuniting with them in blighty for a day of Curry, Chinese and Roast dinner.
We awoke to another beautiful blue-skied day in North Carolina. The first picture was taken before sunset, at about five-fifteen in the AM. We left much later, in fact a day later. Yesterday we stayed here and did laundry and relaxed. Today we drove to Roanoke Island, the site of the first settlement in the New World. ... br> Once back at the house, it took two showers to get all the sand off my body and out of various places and then later I found even more sand. It just goes everywhere. Maybe tomorrow I will have gotten rid of most of it. We also plan to go get some more kites and just go over to the Wright Brothers Memorial which has a fine grassy field for kite flying. None of this sand everywhere then.
