I had a few specific things I wanted to do: visit the Archives at the local Library, go to the cemetery and see if I could find my great-grandparent's grave, have a look at my father's family home, go to the "Dock Museum" which tells all about the history of the local area and lastly & visit the Furness Abbey - an abbey (just outside the town) that was built in 1127.     I now leave Clitheroe and move on a few miles to a tiny, but beautiful village at the edge of the Forest of Bowland (not a forest any more but some rather spectacular moors).     ... and we had a second stop there. Again it was very busy with loads of tourists and their big camera's. We like Bowness as it has a number of shops both independent and chain and the narrow streets and Lakeland architecture is very pleasing to the eye.
