Once we arrived on East Santa Cruz Island, the biggest of the Channel Islands, we found that we only had to share the volunteer guide with one other couple from Germany. We took an interpretive hike with our guide, Catherine French, for like an hour and a half and listened as she described the history of the island and the people who used to live there. We arrived in Santa Barbara late in the afternoon. It was really warm and pleasant. People were playing volley ball on the beach - they seem to do that a lot here. We walked out on to Stearn's Wharf. There are restaurants on the wharf and you can pay to drive your car up to the entrance and then pay a man to park your car for you - about 10 meters away.
