Main Street Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep
Hi All Sorry we have been offline for a while - no PCs available on a boat! We were sad to leave Chiang Mai and the lovely girls at Riverside House GH and Mae Ping Riverside Tours - if you ever go to CM definitely try to stay there! We left Chiang Mai on Sunday lunchtime and had a 6 hour minibus journey to Chiang Khong which is on the north eastern border of Thailand and Laos. We stayed overnight there at a fairly basic guest house but it was OK and had a nice view over the Mekong River to La...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep bricknellThe slowboat journey was pretty much as expected- stunning views of totally unspoilt tropical jungle with virtually no sign of habitation beyond a solitary stilt hut balanced precariously on the side of a hill, or a lone fisherman casting his net in the river.. but VERY long. Unfortunately it was also blighted somewhat by drizzle (and sometimes torrential rain showers during which we had to put the sides down) for much of the 2 days. I was wise enough to be at the jetty bright and early on bo...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep g0ldiel0cksI changed my mind... maybe I will start donating some money to the pagodas after all, because I really really don't want to reincarnate as a chicken. On top of being quite unintelligent, chickens are rather unattractive and damn loud, especially when they start crowing non-stop between the hours of 2 and 7 am. What gives??? Aren't they supposed to quack at dawn only? Not only do they have nothing going for them, they are bothersome and in the end, their ...

Nearby, a group of young men had convened with their motorbikes and a truck tire-deep in the water. They were using the river as a car wash. After wading into the pool of the waterfall for a bit, we hopped back on our bikes and made our way back. Now that I wasn't busy thinking about how much longer we had until we reached the waterfall and ...

It was quite amazing to see a tiger at close range like this and also heart rending to see such a magnificent creature in close confinement due to man's destructive tendencies.
