... back into society after his time at Robben Island and an even more difficult time finding work. He had done some other stuff for a few years, but then was out of work for a while and was starting to get desperate. He heard about the guiding opportunities and decided that was his best option. He did add at the end that he felt that it was important to tell the story of what went on at Robben Island – but that seemed to be a secondary reason.

... within a few minutes. Dr. Mendel was mad. She kept trying to reason with them, saying, "There are patients who need their ARV's today. There's no other option for them. What are they supposed to do?? We need to go back in there." The police did nothing.
The last thing I saw before I left the clinic was a frightened mother with an infant in her arms. The infant's eye was swolen shut and pussing. I suppose she was going to have to figure out a ...
... not the smartest thing). Did find someone looking for a Ms Kelly in a party of two. So - after a couple of phone calls and e-mails, I braved the airport shuttle service (still think better than a taxi). I did get to my hotel without any problems.
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa nahury1... only happens during the day). It also hits me when I realize the little subtleties about this country that aren't present in the States.... Like hearing multiple languages every ten feet as you're walking through town; seeing flocks of locals at KFC (which is the biggest franchise here, haha); getting used to local slang like "dodgey" instead of "sketchy"... in fact a lot of the vernacular here is very different from the US. Being here really makes you ...
Cape Town, South Africa johannaksf... Julia is graduating from Harvard this year. Last night we had dinner last night with our friends Sven and Christelle and their daughters, Kara and Micah. They are 13 and 10 years old and very nice. Their dad, Sven, was Father Christmas last year - he is very funny and he is a glider pilot. We are all sad to be leaving Cape Town but I am excited about Australia. One more day here then we are on the road again!
Cape Town, South Africa zolab... samsonite!) making a booking for that night! I asked Louis, the ab sailing dude, what I should do about parking and he then tells me he can sort me out LITERALLY across the road from teh hostel! So, we exchange numbers, I spend aother 45 minutes on the summit and then decide the sunset is unmissable and I head down M62 to Camps Bay for the sundowner on my MTM that I had previosuly missed. As luck would have it, I found a cool little place with a chair and table facing RIGHT at the ...
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa ashling... running back five seconds later yelling, "FIIIIIRE!!!!" The next few seconds are a blur in my mind, but I distinctly approaching Shelly's room and noticing how bright the blaze in her room was. Somebody brought a fire extinguisher and I sat there trying to get it to work while Ethan starting bashing the fire with a pillow. This thing was pretty huge. It took up a corner of the room, flames were up to the ceiling and it was dang hot. There was a period of time right about then ...
Cape Town, South Africa mcline999... to hold it's own (I have a new found respect for Mazdas now). We saw some small boks and a couple wild boars. The time was starting to go quick and we needed to get out and back on the main road to make it into our game reserve where we'd be staying. We had to make it there by 6pm or the gates close and that's it. We realized that we could not exit the current park we were in the way we were headed (after confirming this with a random guy). We had to rush ...
Cape Town, South Africa thtravels... a great picture of them but I got one that sort of shows it. I will upload it soon. The next day we were supposed to go diving with great white sharks Discovery Channel Style...cage and all. I was so prepared. I had mentally psyched myself up for this adventure and wanted to get it over with because it's all I could think about. Unfortunately, they called in the morning and said we couldn't go because the swells were too big. I was disappointed ...
Cape Town, South Africa pennami... were going to for the evening. However, she ended up snagging a ticket and thank goodness she did because we definitely didn't go to Long Street. First, we went to a warehouse on the other side of Cape Town to listen to two musicians play music for us. We arrived at this old brick building with no signs on it, a falling down wooden balcony, and a doorway with a door covered in graffiti. We went inside and the hallway was just a cement floor and bare wooden ...
