More Than a Woman Part II

... humidity and lack of anything to do on Caye Caulker since I don´t dive or lay out in the sun. I read somewhere that Placencia has the narrowest main street in the world so that seemed to hold some promise. It´s a tiny town on the end of a 14 mile peninsula at the bottom of Belize. If the Guiness Book of World Records says that the place holds a record, why not go see it in person, right? How can you pass up the chance to stand on a sidewalk that holds ...

Un-Belize-Able Weekend at the beach

... there. I guess the "Secret" part of the Secret Garden restaurant is that it sucks. After we had drinks back in our rooms, then headed back to the beach to watch the stars. It was absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. After awhile, Becky, Sam and I went back to the Tipsy Tuna where we met a few North Americas, some just here for the weekend and some doing an archaeological dig in the area. We stayed and exchanged travel stories for hours, listening to the loud disco ...

The Adventure Continues

... As we are rolling down the road the money taker tells us we are going to Idependence where we will need to take the Hokey Pokey water taxi to Placencia! By this time it's after 5. Herbert asks when the last water taxi leaves he says 5:30. Herbert asks "Will we make it?" He says "Yes" At 5:25 Herbert says " I don't think we are going to make it." The a**hole bus guy says "yes you'll make it." He drops us off we run like hell (glad I quit smoking!) a kid on bike asks us "You need ...

Camping in 'Jaguar' & snake territory and tubing!

... site was cool though, we had our own little picnic area with straw roof and an open fire area plus we could use the camp kitchen to cook the delightful dry packet meal we had so all was good. On asking the ranger if we could go tubing in the river he proceeded to tell me that there had been a flash flood the day before so it wasn't safe but he would check, then when he saw that 7 of us would hire tubes the river became suddenly safe...what were we letting ourselves in for!! In ...

Placencia

... and before you know it the day was almost over. Just enough light in the day left to get in some hammock time. Tomorrow we head to San Ignacio which I think will be an adventure if the bus I saw today is anything to go by. An old American school bus complete with air conditioning (open windows) and a five star loo (I'm guessing it will be asking the driver to pull over). All this topped off with the potholed road spells lots of fun!

No More Rain

... and caught the ferry to Placencia since it was the fastest way to get there. While talking with our new friend we found out that the sand fleas are really bad in Belize. Walking from the bus stop to the ferry stop we met a couple from Canada and they were going to Lydias Guest house. They had stayed there before and recommended it. We decided to stay there ...

Ya Da Fu We Belize: Dangriga, Belize

... out that the transmission is toast and we`ll need another bus for the next 3 hours. So, he figures we`ll drive back towards GC to meet the bus coming to pick us all up. So, 0.5hours back towards GC the bus is done. We hang out eating corn from a road side grill until the next bus comes. There is a mad dash for the bus, but why we ask - isn`t it empty for us?? Assume nothing!! The bus is full and we are standing along with many others for ...

Belize: British Outpost

... actually - left our rucksack behind in a restaurant and I swear started off her ulcers). When we arrived there was this huge RV parked outside the hotel; as big as they get; the owner and his parents chatted to us asking about what they could see and we started to tell them but realised that the RV could not get through many of the roads. People are mad: they had 2 air-conditioning units, huge generators, two dogs; wife was hoovering all the window blinds because of the dusty road ...

... and take pictures. They were changing colors constantly while we were watching them. I saw in a special before that this is how they communicate. Not sure what they were saying, maybe something like, "What the hell are they staring at?" but I couldn't get enough of watching them. The water was really warm, Dave's watch said 84 degrees on average. I also discovered that these large holes in the sandy bottom were inhabited by these fish that are long and narrow, maybe 12 inches ...
