Journeyed to Budapest today - naturally we left right on time. First stopped was a quick 1 in Bratsslavia we saw the old town area below a huge castle built by the Habsburgs. We followed the Danube valley stopping for lunch at restaurant modelled like an old Hungarian Fishing Cabin. ... third train. The 6 hr direct train trip took 10 hrs with 3 trains & 2 busses, We arrived in Budapest at night, exhausted & having no idea where we were (3 different train stations in Budapest). A young university girl helped direct us to our Hotel. "Welcome to train travel in Eastern Europe". Today we got up and laughed about it.

... from New York on the Pest tour and they recommended we try Borse for lunch--it was a great recommendation! This small gastropub only serves take away baguettes with meat, cheese, and toppings made fresh to order. Yum. The Buda tour was also about 2 hours and, in our opinion, was not as interesting as Pest. ... transfered us to the hotel, we choosed one of the best hotels from the island, but it was the farthest from the airport, the transfer took 1.5 an hour. We got to the hotel at midnight and they were so kind that they waited us with the dinner. It was delicious, really I loved it, and we were very tired so get to sleep after eating. ... see curly-haired pigs, turkeys, sheep, and Puli dogs we sat in the stands to watch the horsemen perform their skills at archery from horseback, using their whips, riding atop three horses at a gallop etc. Quite a show and different from our other tours. During the bus ride back to the ship our guide pointed out interesting things such as the Communist built grey high-rise panelaks (tenements) which were to ensure everyone had a residence (2 room box inside a bigger box). ...
