First impression of Kolkata
From Joanna
At the Kolkata airport they have pre-paid taxis. Through the circle hole in the glass you tell the gruff men where you are going, and they print you off a slip, with the price you have paid, your destination and the license plate number of your ride. Out through the doors and the crush of touts to the taxis stand, where a row …
And second impressions of Kolkata
From Joanna
We have been here five days now and haven't even been sick yet. Last time he was here James lasted three days, and Simon got sick on the second. So we are doing pretty well. And every day we are here, we must be building up a resistance to all the nasty bugs and lurgies.
The first day here we slept. The second day we …
Kali's Kolkata: Faded Capital of the British Raj

Arriving early in the morning after another overnight train trip, it was clear that we were had arrived in one of India's major transportation hubs. The station was a great place to people-watch as businessmen and other commuters arrived for work, venders …

TravelPod Member ReviewsSunflower Guest House Kolkata (Calcutta)
Sunflower guesthouse is located very centrally between Sudder St and Park St. On arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful. This was true of our entire stay, the staff were very good. It was a modest guesthouse but very clean. The room was large and well maintained. We opted for non AC but I would recommend getting a room with AC because of the heat.
The bathroom was clean and the water was hot (if you wanted a hot shower). Overall, I had a very pleasant stay and would recommend this to anyone travelling to Kolkata.
