Hard to believe, but Tim and arrived in China 5 months ago today – another 5 months and we'll be finished teaching for the year! There were a few changes to start the new year. In our neighbourhood, a few new businesses and shops have popped up. It’s amazing how quickly the can happen. At school, we have all new yellow school buses because of a new law that came into effect. They look official and are probably safer than the vans, but traffic still ...

I loved the friendly greetings from strangers and drivers who respected pedestrians and followed the rules of ...

Had a fantastic day with Anne visiting the Dafen Oil Painting Village. It's a neighborhood entirely populated with painters, painting shops, the occasional framing shop, and an art museum. We had lunch in a hole in the wall place at the edge of the neighborhood (much easier to eat at a place like that with Anne, since she speaks Mandarin). Then we spent 3-4 hours exploring the shops. A major focus of the ...

Once again I am writing this blog with a mocha to my right in the Shao Sua cafe (thankfully this time the journey here was uneventful in that I did not receive an injury), my diary to my left and the latest episodes of the Apprentice are downloading as I type. Time to type up my most recent exploits in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Purely, so that blog map can register more places that I have been to (and Hong Kong itself deserves an entry on its own), I have decided ...
