Back in the chair

The ride back was longer than the way there. That bumpy bus ride nearly had be ******* my pants. Lucky we had to stop for a bannana train contraption that sends hanging bunches of bananas accross the road. I jumped off the bus and let it fly. Lot's of locals giggling when I reboarded the bus. I worked the legs out with my boots on, making way from the western bus terminal that goes to the Caribbean coast cities, to downtown, and then to Sol Y Luna, close to Dr. Marco's. My shirt was completel...

... last 4 days and go with kingklip. Never had kingklip before, but it is a very meaty fish that was quite delicious. We noticed that Bellevue was on the very extensive wine list, so we ordered a bottle excited to finally try it. Just our luck, but they were sold out as well. The sommelier recommended a merlot to go with our wide variety of dinners, and it was quite tasty in its own right. Dinner was pretty good overall and ...

Chasing penguins and shooting stars

... nights felt strange after being with them for so long. I couldn't wait to see them again, but it also made me think what was I going to do when it was time for me to leave for good? When we got back to school the next day, my teacher and now good friend Des offered me a lift home on her mo-ped. I said yes before I realised I had never been on the back of one before. It was great fun ridding through the suburbs of SA with the wind in my hair! And even better I was going home! Makulu home!!

Back in cape town

... trip, they make me laugh. they're always looking out over the fence, looks like they're planning a breakout. Had braai with tony and diane and their twins and their kids the last night. All in all, a good road trip. BUT.....I am so happy to be back in Cape Town. What a great city! Saw gramma this morning, so she has weathered her trip alright. Better finish up now. Signal here is really low, so no pictures. love, Us

Cape Town

... of dove like birds, of course everyone said good luck, good luck. Since we could not go on our scheduled tours because of the weather they offered to take us to an aquarium and museum. We opted to go on our own to the Waterfront and tour. From the hotel we grabbed a shuttle and made it to the V & A ...

... cheese at Fairview....hmm, yeah that could have had something to do with it. All in all it was a fabulous day and we picked a good'un as we swirled, tilted, sniffed, sucked, swished and swallowed mouthful upon mouthful of amazing wines in glorious sunshine.....now that's the life! If only everyday could be a Stellenbosch day. Favourite wine of the day was from Dieu Donne, a wooded c******nay with hints of vanilla, don't you know! I've found ...

Things seriously rocking along!

... it seemed like our luck was just too much. We had a divine little luncheon with her and she took us to Fruit & Veg City (a new supermarket discovery with very inexpensive, very delicious produce). Anyway she's a really neat lady and just gave us the lowdown on the Cape Town volunteering scene and a few contacts. Thanks to Derek and Judy Kotze for giving us her number. Wednesday night we had a lovely little evening with Matt and Tori down at Camp's Bay. Matt called us up for ...

... relaxed! From there we went onto East London, where we were meant to be meeting the people who had the farm. We arrived on the thursday and they were going to come and collect us on the friday after we had taken our car back to the airport. So friday morning arrived, they said they would call in the morning (we have a mobile here!), so we went about our day, took our car to the ariport then waited there for them to call and come and get us. Taxis here are really ...

The start of our adventure

... is remarkable and I can only say that it's really safe and don't feel out of place. The first day we went to Table Mountain and were blessed with perfect weather. We spent about 4 hours walking around the top and admiring the view. The beauty that surrounds capetown is truely breathtaking.....words can't describe just how beautiful it is here. There is something amazing about the whote sandy beaches with the mountains in the background that ...

Cape Town - Arrival in South Africa

... I flew in and I was so excited to start exploring. It seems a little strange to be this far away from home in a place I've only seen on tv or in a National Geographic magazine. After a short taxi ride from the airport I arrived at the Ashanti Hostel. I could tell immediately that this place was like a 5-star hotel compared to the hostels I stayed at in South America. For this part of my trip I am traveling ...
