100/14-15 Kata Road, Karon Phuket, Thailand
Flew into Phuket and went to the quiet Kata beach area. Hostel was fantastic, had a TV with like 40 channels, luxury!
Beaches are gorgeous. Bit of a quiet area, with Thai prostitutes and Western men being the sole occupants of bar. But having a well deserved rest.
Unfortunately the anti-malarials made me super photo sensitive, so have spent many days as a peeling lobster!
Love it here and looking forward to next island!
So we got up early to head to Phuket, the ferry was quite uneventful and same same. Got a minibus to Kata beach to try and find somewhere to stay. We deliberately chose Kata beach as oppose to the lively party beach of Patong as we thought a couple of quiet days after the madness of Phi Phi were in order. Unfortunately we kind of underestimated the quietness, the majority of the actual sea front beach (which was about 1km) was taken up by a MASSIVE Club Med resort. This seemed to label this p...
Phuket, Thailand emmaandemma
... wave at us and several people snap photos as we meander by.Everyone else in rafts are splashing each other with gay abandon and we stop briefly in a calm spot for a brief swim. Whoooaaa! When we finally slow down and head to the waiting car on the bank I find myself wishing it could have gone on a little longer but we did cover over five kilometers of white water ...
Phuket, Thailand jo_in_thailand... an elephant and various other means of transportation. The top was a perfect spot to look out at the ocean, especially on such a bright, blue day. The Buddha they are building is huge; I don’t remember the numbers but it is several stories high and very striking. Around the Buddha were lots of smaller shrines built in and around the rocks. People had hung small bells that were ringing in the breeze and left lovely flowers at the shrines. It was nice. On ...
Phuket, Thailand mcmactravels... has allowed me the opportunity to push some of my limits in the attempt to help me grow through new experiences. Climbing a volcano in the dark is a good example. During our time in Thailand, Paul wanted me to experience scuba diving as Thailand is one of the best dive locations in the world. Paul is already scuba certified and the goal was for me to go on a “Discovery Dive” while in Phuket and possibly/hopefully gain my scuba ...
Phuket, Thailand aliciay98... been naughty and bought me some little presents and as it was after midnight I opened them all ... lots of sweets and chocolate (that she helped me eat)! My 26th birthday had arrived ... our plan was to treat ourselves to a sun lounger at the beach and relax all day, before having a meal at the Italian and then heading out around Karon Beach for drinks. It was so nice to have a sun lounger as we had been getting covered in sand all week laying on the beach trying to save ...

... all over the place, scared that I couldn't touch the ground with my feet. Swallowed some water etc, but luckily grabbed on a rope. However after that stint, it was extremely fun. Beautiful clear water, so much coral and fish to see. Snorkel gear was bought at a discount bin for 385 baht (goggles and tube)! Cheap! Had lunch on the island - it was extremely expensive and quality was poor. However the scenery was ...
Rawai, Thailand ly.ho... i'm happy to feeling 100% after dealing iwth some sickness for a few days back in krabi. I think we will probably leave for bangkok by land, or fly to chiang mai tomorrow. its a shame because i wanted to spend some time checking out the area here but its supposed to rain the next few days. don't worry though, all of you who are bursting with anticipation, lol, i'll be sure to blog about whatever happens next! haha
Phuket, Thailand struchen... we just look at fish and invertebrates. Which is what you do normally anyway. We went diving with a small dive shop in town. This meant it was just the two of us with our instructor, and he could pick the dive sites. We had to do some homework from the book, and set up our own gear (something we hadn't done since way back in Honduras). When you dive deep, you use your air much more quickly, so generally have less ...
