... we slept in our bus, going nowhere!
His alarm went off around six in the morning and he roused a few others from their sleep! Simultaneously, a row of taxis joined the bus. One by one the taxi drivers hopped out! (Oh God! What's going on here??) They each took a bag from the bus and once again disappeared. Some of the helpers jumped into a passing white van. And a strange old man passed the bus, nonchalant, but walkin backwards up the road. We shrugged off ...

Taiyuan, Shanxi, China jenny77... around it. The hotel was also built into city just like the rest of the buildings. Again, our room was beautiful and it actually contained an entire suite. We hustled off to dinner. Dinner was trip. Mr. Cao was funny and very witty, but a bit twisted and he certainly enjoyed making other people uncomfortable. He also like to drink, a lot. A self-proclaimed alcoholic, he enjoyed watching us squirm as he kept pouring the shots ...
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China jstellarWe get dropped off at the Qingxu service station at 2:30am. There's a 24hr convenient store, we find a row of plastic seats and tries to make it until the sun comes up. We have been on the road nonstop for 18 hours, have to wait 7 more hours before we can find a bed.
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China whereskyleBefore arriving in Yichang my son said to keep things simple in this city. As soon as we arrived yesterday we went to the concierge and asked about a tour to the 3 gorges dam. The concierge told us that we could sign for the tour right then. We did paying our 200 yuan on the spot. The only way to see the dam is via an official tour. A little later the confcierge told us that the tour would be a chinese led ...
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China masovy_kasparek... signature. This second building also had a 360 degree theater detailing the history surrounding the Terracotta Warriors. Though the movie was in Chinese, visually it was easy enough to understand. The last three buildings were the pits in which the Terracotta Warriors were found. The first pit was by far the most impressive with thousands (I believe around 6000) of common soldiers lined up in ranks with some horses ...
Xian, Shanxi, China kasey_kidXian was hectic and the smog worse than Beijing, which made navigating by the 2 major landmarks , Bell Tower and Drum Tower tricky. The Muslim quarter is a must to check out, full of colour, noise and smells in a maze of little streets that run off from the main road through. Ate steemed dumplings untill we were stuffed then walked it off. There is more fake stuff here than in Hong Kong eg North Face ...
Xian, Shanxi, China easton-martin... give you the option of seeing 1 or 2 temples without buying the big ticket. Anyway, we're heading out for a bike-ride tomorrow to a temple 7km out of the city... if it stops raining by then. In the evening we're getting another sleeper train to Xi'an. Man, that's another gripe I have with this city: we tried to buy train tickets at the station and the woman told us they were all sold, but we could buy a ticket and just hope we can find a seat - apparently you can often upgrade once you ...
