Life of a chicken

... rid of all the kinks in my feet and legs and proceeded to pounce, slap and punch my calves to oblivion in order to improve my circulation, which I had not known needed improvement. It felt damn good when she was done and I bounced happily to dinner. Except that somewhere in the fierceful pounding, she must've pinched a muscle because after dinner, my ankle felt like I'd sprained it, hurt like hell... I'd also had a couple of beers with dinner so had to go to the ...

We got to visit some caves and a natural spring on the way before arriving at the falls and taking a swim in the cool water!
The Road to the End...

... We marched in the heat straight up hill, stopping several times to catch our breath. We hiked for about two more hours and arrived at the village that we would be staying for the night around 3:30 p.m. We were shocked to discoverer that not only did the village lack a toilet (or even a shack with a hole in it), it lacked a shower. We had to make due with the bushes for a bathroom and the river for bathing. After setting our things down in our host family's home, we headed down to the ...

After an unpleasent night in the town of Chaing Kong on the boarder of Thailand we crossed the Mekong to get our visas for Laos. Simon, Mel, Marc and I had already booked on the slow boat to take us down the river over two full days to Luang Prabang but after much discussion we decided to pay a little extra and take the bus for one full day. When booking onto the bus we were told it takes 10 hours, 14 hours later we realised that people find it easy to lie to ...

Slow Boat to nowhere.

... We had an hour to kill then until our second leg of the journey. This was a 9 hour slow boat ride down the Mekong River to Pakbeng. It was a peaceful journey taking us through some beautiful Lao scenery. Stopping off at little outposts on the way to pick locals up or drop them off. Whilst on the boat our group of 5 turned into a group of 13 as we started playing card games, connect 4 and chess together. As well as the usual drinking and **** taking that happens!

We finally reached ...

Elephants, kayaking,

... took them in and then created elephant parks which help to preserve and keep them safe. They count on tourism to do this as well. Laos is surprisingly very consciously aware about proper tourism and taking care of what’s around them. Most of the tour company gives back to the local communities and to the areas that we see. In Vietnam, if I went into someone’s house the tour company did not give money to that person, but depended on the ...

... Luang Prabang was subject to almost continuous assaults by the Siamese, Burmese and Vietnamese and was forced to seek protection from the French in 1887 after a ruinous battle with Chinese Black Flag soldiers. Under French Protection the monarchy of Laos survived in Luang Prabang until the early 1980s (or maybe the late 1970s, nobody knows) when the Pathet Lao put them in caves where they starved to death.

Because of the long centuries of war and the complete lack of (until ...
